I appreciate the quick reply btw, and I understand it not being worth taking the time to craft some complicated BS for one person's request. I see there's source code on GitHub, maybe I'll fork it and try (and fail) to poke around in the guts myself lmao
Game doesn't track anything else than that on a per-creature basis, so I'd have to custom craft something for that and it is way more work than it's worth.
Maybe it would be a good idea to add a condition to earning XP that you have to have landed a hit on the killed enemy in order to earn XP? Or at least that you're in proximity of the target, like 200 tiles or something. Config options for both could be useful as well.
You sure you're not confusing this with one of the many other level mods out there.
I just tested it with a fresh character and successfully got it to level 5.
There's a few things that will never give xp, that being critters (0 attack), enemy projectiles you can break and stuff that have invulnerable body parts like the crawtipede.
Please open a discussion with screenshots so we can troubleshoot that, the mod is working fine for me.
