11/10/2021: Release

Rim Effect is a large overhaul mod series, adding the story, races, objects, and conflicts of Mass Effect universe into RimWorld. The Mass Effect elements are not meant to stand out, and as such are blended into the RimWorld style by utilising the same naming conventions and writing styles.

Much like Vanilla Factions Expanded, the Rim Effect mod series comes divided into sub-modules, firstly to allow the players to pick exactly what elements they want in their games, secondly to ease the production and design process.

Rim Effect: Drell is an add-on module to the Core module. It introduces a brand new race called Drell - An omnivorous, reptile-like race that was rescued from their dying homeworld by the hanar. Since then, the drell have remained loyal to them for their camaraderie and have fit comfortably into galactic civilization. Their culture allows Drell to separate their mind from their body, helping them through hard times and work. They are predisposed to Kepral's syndrome, a lethal condition which can develop if Drell stays in cold temperatures too long.

This module brings two new apparel pieces - an Assassin set, as well as two new weapons into the game. Alliance Rapid Sniper Rifle is a great alternative to a DMR, whilst a Compact SMG will allow you to greatly increase the distance at which you eliminate threats.

These mods utilises Vanilla Expanded Framework and all the code within it, as well as Humanoid Alien Races framework, kindly provided by Erdelf. As such, both our Framework and Humanoid Alien Races are required to play with this mod.

We are currently not aware of any issues. If you believe you encountered a bug, please submit a hugslib log alongside an explanation of how the bug occurred. If you don’t do that, I promise you I won’t get back to you. We need the logs to troubleshoot. We don’t need screenshots or your mod lists, or names of your pawns. We need logs.

Q: CE Compatible?
A: Yes!

Q: Do I need Vanilla Expanded framework for this to work?
A: Yes. It’s a framework with vast amounts of interesting, important code.

Q: Do I need Humanoid Alien Races framework for this to work?
A: Yes. This mod literally adds an alien race.

Q: Where are other Mass Effect races?
A: They will come in future modules. This module is only focused on bringing the Drell to the RimWorld scene. Other modules will focus on other races.

Q: Can I add it to an ongoing save? Can I remove it?
A: Yes, you can add it whenever you like. You cannot however remove it, so make sure to backup your save!

Q: Does this mod remove anything from vanilla game?
A: No. This mod only adds more late game content!

Q: How do I avoid getting Keprel’s Syndrome?
A: Every time a drell enters hypothermia, there is a chance for KS to develop. Simply make sure your drell are always nice and warm.

Q: How can I recruit a drell? They don’t have a faction!
A: That’s right, they don’t. They can rarely appear in Outlander caravans and Pirate raids. The fact that they are so rare is intended.

Q: How to treat Keprel’s Syndrome?
A: That’s the neat part. You can’t cure it. You can slow the progress of the condition, giving you enough time to replace both lungs, but you can’t cure it, and once you get it, it’s a death sentence.

I would like to post this here for those that don't know, this is from the mod creator Oskar Potocki's Patreon, posted back in March regarding the future development of Rim-Effect.

" Rim-Effect was created when I was riding the Mass Effect Legendary Edition hype wave. As I finished the game, the hype died down and I lost interest in continuing the project. Considering it took as much time to make these mods as Vanilla Factions Expanded mods, and it only reached 5%-10% popularity of the VE mods, I couldn't justify spending so much time and effort on them. The mod will be reuploaded by Neronix and will receive 1.5 update on his end. "

I wish Oskar and his team would have continued working and updating the Rim-Effect series mods, I was looking forward to the Quarians and Turians being released however having Neronix update it is still appreciated. Hopefully one day the mod will be developed again and the stuff they are making now is great.

@Flamangos Not all races use the Biotech genes you clown
Flamangos Mar 6, 2024 @ 11:13am
This needs to use genetics to create the race. I don't use it because compared to other races using the new biotech system it doesn't make sense.

If I replace a drell's lungs when he suffers from Kepral's Syndrome for another pair of lungs - archotech for instance - will he be cured?
