People from CZE ! (others can skip)
English, English, English !!!

The first think I have to write- if you are from CZE use english language- there's a paradox- it's czech game, but many options are bugged in CZE language (does not show properly- not just in settings, also in game)

##################################

Používejte Angličtinu, v češtině jsou některé položky zabugované- nejen v nastavení (hodnota pro využití paměti GPU) a menu (přidání serveru do oblíbených), ale i ve hře jako takové.
Prepare global settings
In first step set the max resources for a game...

Go to Textures settings and set Video memory, Texture detail and Texture filtering

Video memory- higher is better, but if you will set auto it could be the same like max value
Texture detail- not much needed, you can set low or very low
Texture filtering- also not much needed, disable / very low / low (maybe low has better performance than very low :D)

After that, lets set up some minor parametres (exactly GUI aspect & cooperation with graphic card)

Go to Video and change Overall quality to Custom - we will set it complete manually.

Now there is a standard resolution of the game
- to look well it's recommended to set something equals or greater to 100% resolution
- of course higher resolution means more performance for rendering. (I have 100% - in my case 1024x 768 /not sure / px)

VSync is better to turn off- It works as a limiter fps (speed rendering vs display/monitor refresh rate- LCDs have usually 60hz/60fps, older CRTs had 75Hz/100hz+)
But you cant try what it will do if you will switch it.

After that go to user interface - there should be settings for overlay controll icons (like inventory, quickslot, etc. - HUD GUI)
- it's recommended to have same game resolution and UI resolution (it avoids deformations eg.)
- if u set lower resolution for UI - it should be scale to less than 100% in game
- higher should be scaled more than 100% (of default)

(Probably for better scaling there is specially size, also you can set aspect ratio)

Lets change this and that
(Btw all changes are visible in menu, if u have loaded background)[/b]

Rendering
There you can switch advanced technology for rendering and also greatest gluttons of FPS
- Anti-Aliasing (smoother edges, problem with pixel sizes on sloping edges)
- Alpha to Coverage (technology for rendering grass and dense foliage etc.)
- Edge smoothing
- HDR (high dynamic range- of the light)
- Ambient occlusion (for light angles)
- Postprocess quality
- Bloom (shader effect)
- Rotation blur

Anti-Aliasing- low / disable
Alpha to Coverage- maybe if AA is disabled, that's not showing, if it is, set upper options should be more considerate to FPS :D.
Edge smoothing- disable
HDR- I'm not sure, but I think here it does not matter what is selected, You can try..
Ambient occlusion- very low/disable
Postprocess quality- disable
Bloom, Rotation blur- as HDR, maybe?

Quality

I have all for the very low, just objects to low :)

and .. Run settings
Now click on the DayZ icon in steam with Right mouse button, go to properties (last item), and click "set launch options" options (1st card called "general").

(Screen is from other game, but it has all the same )

Here write something like this
-CPUCount=2 -exThreads=3 -maxmem=3072 - MaxVram = 1024 -nosplash -noPause -dxlevel 98
  • CPUCount - number of Ur CPUs (physical- eg. cores, not virtual)
  • exThreds- number of paralel threads of Ur CPU (u can find on internet with your CPU type)
  • maxmem- max uasble RAM in MB (1 GB == 1024 MB) - maybe is good idea to dont set "full" - something u need for OS etc.
  • MaxVram- max usable video RAM (RAM of your graphics card)
  • nosplash- disable into splash
  • noPause- if u will use ALT + TAB (or win key), game will not be paused (it probably doesnt have effect in MMO games)
  • dxlevel- sets DirectX level - 98 should be 9c, not sure - more @ https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947

HELP:
If you dont know exactly what to set, use eg. this sites
Intel processors http://ark.intel.com/
AMD proc. http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors

Btw if set this, U will probably not see menu background before u click to character settings or before u will play on some server, dont be scared :) (maybe it loads after some time :D )
- but in fact, that helps me well

Bonus: You can also disable Win aero (If you are using Win7 or Vista)
- Click on the .exe , go to properties -> compatibility -> check "restrict desktop composition" (something like that) It also helps a little.
You can click exactly on the .exe or alternate icon (eg. on desktop)
If you really wanna to change something in CFG
If you really wanna to change something in CFG...

  • 1st You have to find CFG profile file (and open in some text editor)
    ~<USER>\Documents\DayZ\<nameOfProfile>.DayZProfile
  • find "viewDistance=" (you can use shortcut CTRL + F to find faster). It should be view distance in meters- you can set it about 3000, and it should be ok
  • also you can find "preferredObjectViewDistance" - It should be a distance for which are objects rendered - You can have it the same as viewDistance or smaller (viewDistance should be just for static objects probably)
  • alsi shadowZDistance - it should be distance for which is rendering a shadow of objects
Detect your fps
In the end, use some software to show actual FPS- you can use eg. Fraps, or something like this.

So, enjoy :)
(Can write in comments if it helps, thx )
Customization and more
If you wanna to see more in sides, set FOV- Field of view in configure...

Greater FOV means u can see more to sides, but objects in front of you will look like more far than they are ..
(It depends on situation in game what is better, or to do some compromise)

This manual can be outdated :)
Or it got overrided from the ingame settings, etc.

@Gus which OS are you running on?
In win10 is the full path like "C:\Users\<YourPCUserName>\Documents\DayZ" by default

I have [ Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2370M CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
] so what do I write for the CPUCount and the exThreads? And Yes i know my comp can't run DayZ but it cant hurt to try
