The Siege of Troy

Description
This mod is a new and improved version of my now obsolete mod: Taking Troy

This map represents my best attempt to reconstitute the city of Troy in game and make the siege challenging and fun to play whether you are siding with the Danaans or the Pelasgians. The city is quite large with a multitude of sectors and a different feel in each.

The Danaans have landed on the Trojan beach and set up camp, they must strengthen their forces, weaken the Trojans, and eventually destroy the city and kill King Priamos of Troia and his allies.

The map was tested with AI on Titan (I just let the AI do their thing without interfering), in the prior version the Danaans took down the gate after 13 minutes and won easily. In the new version the battles ended in a stalemate with the Danaans gaining a late edge once the Trojan allies had been delt with. It’s thus up to you to swing the balance one way or the other.




Update 2.1

_Another big map update to make the area more realistic. The path to the gate of Troy is much more treacherous and the AI more precise in its attacks.
_Added some more defence to the Greek Camps

Update 2.0

_Huge update, heavily edited the map to make it easier for the AI to move around and attack the player.
_Redid the starting position for the Allies and made a lot of balance checks. The two factions should now be at war constantly with no one gaining the edge.
_Added empty settlements for colonisation.
_Added more wildlife and relics.
_Troia will only reach full strength once you have thoroughly began your attack making the early game blitzkrieg a thing of the past.
_Delayed Mythic Age for Troia and allies
_Odysseas now worships Hades for archery buffs.

Update 1.31

_Walls of Troy are quasi-indestructible and resistant to everything.
_Penthesilea and Hippolyta can now be re-recruited when defeated (although without regen making them much weaker when re-recruited).
_Trojan Allies now worship Poseidon instead of Hades.

Update 1.3: The Sons of Aphrodite

_New Heroes ! The sons of Aphrodite, Sarpedon and Aeneas have answered their mother's plea to help Troia against the Danaan onslaught. Sarpedon joins the Trojan Allies and Aeneas the Trojan faction.
_New Unit ! The Amazons have joined Penthesilea and Hippolyta. Swearing vengeance against Men, the amazons have an increased bonus vs normal units.
_New Unit ! The Lycean Warriors have joined Sarpedon.
_Mythic Age is now fully integrated!

_Music added.
_Fixed broken objective triggers.
_Now only 3 scenfiles for Scenario (1 for Danaans, 1 for Allies, 1 for Troia). See below for launch instructions.





Factions
Danaans:
Achilleas, Zeus (Default)
Odysseas, Hades
Achaeans, Poseidon

Pelasgians:
Troia, Hades
Trojan Allies, Poseidon

When playing as a Danaan faction, Troia is replaced by Hektoras as a working faction to help the AI deal with the city

Heroes
The heroes have relatively high regen rates and are much more tanky than in vanilla.

Achilleas: Achilleas, Patroclos, Chiron
Odysseas: Odysseas, Diomedes
Achaeans: Agamemnonas, Menelaos, Ajax

Troia: Hektoras, Paris, Aeneas
Trojan Allies: Penthesilea, Hippolyta, Sarpedon

Difficulty
If you play as Troia, I recommend putting the AI on Hard or Titan otherwise you are in for a boring 20 minutes.
If you play as the Danaans any difficulty will do, Odysseas is in a relatively more sheltered startpos than the other two, especially Achilleas.

Single Player
A single player version for each of the faction is available, the scenario should be named “SiegeOfTroy FactionName.scx”

For the Greeks: the default starting faction is Achilleas (P1). If you would like to play as another faction follow these simple steps (which should be familiar to anyone who has used the scenario editor):

1) open the SiegeOfTroy.scx scenario in the Age of Mythology editor
2) go to the "Scenario" drop down (top left) and select "Player Data" from the list
3) in the “Control” column, set control to “Human” for the faction you want to play as
4) click the “Clear AI” button on the right of the faction you want to play as
5) set the control for Achilleas (or any other human controlled factions) to CPU
6) click the “AI” button for Achilleas and set Achilleas’ AI to aomdefaultai.xs
7) you can start the scenario in one of two ways:

Test Play: once you have set controls and AIs, simply go to Scenario and Test Play Scenario and select the player number and difficulty you want to play on. You do not need to save before test playing however, you will not be able to save and resume at a later time.

Load Scenario: once you have set controls and AIs, you will need to also set the player number by, for example, going to Place Object and changing the "Place As" to the player number you want to play as. Save the scenario and return to the main menu. Open in Single Player->Load Scenario. This is the method that most people find most convenient. Just remember that you must set and save the player number to the one you want to play as or you will be forced to play as Achilleas in Load Scenario. Unlike playing in the editor, Load Scenario will allow you to save your progress to resume later.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is possible with 2,3,4, and 5 players in either Head-to-Head or Co-op.

I released 2 files one that is for Head-to-head (SiegeOfTroy MP) and one for co-op (Greek Factions).
Make sure to launch with no AI (in the setup) for the factions that should not have one, as listed below.
If you want to play Head-to-head or Co-op with less players you can always put "Standard" in the launching menu for factions that are not played.

Launch Instructions

The player initiating the scenario must use the file from the ''Scenario'' folder (not the ''Mods'' folder). To obtain the file in the Scenario folder you should simply copy-paste it from your Mods folder once you have subscribed.

When you launch you must set it up like this:

IF Troy is played by a human (MP):

Player 1: Achilleas, Team 1, Zeus
Player 2: Troia, Team 2, Hades
Player 3: Odysseas, Team 1, Hades
Player 4: Achaeans, Team 1, Poseidon
Player 5 (No AI): Danaan Army, Team 1, Zeus
Player 6 (No AI): City of Troia, Team 2, Poseidon
Player 7: Trojan Allies, Team 2, Poseidon
Player 8 (No AI): Trojan villagers, Team 2, Poseidon
Player 9 (No AI): Trojan Priests, Team 2, Isis

IF Troy is played by an AI (co-op):

Player 1: Achilleas, Team 1, Zeus
Player 2 (No AI): Troia, Team 2, Hades
Player 3: Odysseas, Team 1, Hades
Player 4: Achaeans, Team 1, Poseidon
Player 5 (No AI): Danaan Army, Team 1, Zeus
Player 6 (No AI): City of Troia, Team 2, Poseidon
Player 7: Trojan Allies, Team 2, Poseidon
Player 8: Hektoras, Team 2, Hades
Player 9 (No AI): Trojan Priests, Team 2, Isis

If you want you can change the gods for every faction (it will greatly affect the aesthetics), except for Player 9 who must be Isis.

Big update: redid the south and west parts of the map, added some triggers and objectives. MP now has victory and defeat conditions depending on faction.

Updated: Mythic Age is obtainable once more. 2 new heroes for the Trojans (Sarpedon and Aeneas). 2 new units Amazons and Lycean Warriors. Buff to Achilles' Myrmidon. MP has been further tested and deemed fit to run.

In my opinion, the game takes way too long with only Heroic, make Age 5 unobtainable to disable titans. I recommend not using default aomxai. Instead, apply one of the campaign level ai's that fit with the level's direction.

@Venlesh do you think I should allow Mythic Age ? and if so how do I go about disabling Titans ? The main reasons I removed it was for Titans, aesthetics (let's face it Heroic age looks so much better than Mythic Age for greeks), and because the AI would just make armies of Colossi and Helepolis making the game boring.

I'm partial to myth units, I prefer the whole aom experience. And to add music, just create a trigger, and use the "playnextmusictrack" effect. There is definitely ways of streamlining the scen files, but it will probably require a lot of extra trigger work and bug testing. I'm not too experienced with mp maps, but I can certainly try to help, if you want it.
