FYI you can't just rename the jpeg files to png. You have to save the originals as pngs with whatever editor you normally use.
BTW, another benefit to the png format is transparency support. Saving textures as jpegs just turns transparency to white. Unity/Rimworld is *generally* smart enough to understand that, but its still far from ideal.
Not only will they look better, but they will be correctly picked up by external dds generators, whereas now they bug out when they try to convert jpgs.
