Guide Note
I am sure I am missing some citations as I did the research in and around 2018 and am deciding to make this guide years later. Please comment any discussions you think add to the knowledge pool and I will add it in with your name.
C-C-C-C-C-COMBOS
Here are my combos taken from the various links listed below and some that I've come up with on my own.

my thought process is that you will stay within the same button for the majority of the time and only manual the combo for more difficult/complex fights

The only thing i can really note is how the combos will evolve through a playthrough:
Strategy / Ai
This is my Ai set up for general purpose use:
The blast is important as then the Ai wont die as much, but if you play as velvet you should be comboing nearly everyone for them anyway

Healing on Hard or harder should ONLY be used for:
1) Resurrection
2) The buff that it can give (Eizen's gives speed, etc) // [Special Cases]
This is fixed by turning it off and manually single casting as needed in battle.

For individual moves to optimize each characters bot:
All moves are ON, Except pictured and Defiant Conviction (above the clipped image) is OFF.
If you don’t plan to play her then id say remove her from the party as this is probably the worst Ai

All moves are ON, Except pictured and Mowing blade (not pictured) is OFF

All moves are ON, except pictured, Double rush (not pictured) is OFF.
CORRECTION: Inspiration should be off if you are on hard or harder difficulties

ALL moves are OFF, except pictured.
You could probably (as you see fit) also turn off geostigma, as kaleidos ray is just that good.

All moves OFF, except pictured [read below text for clarity].
This was an experiment that sorta worked out.
If you looked at the links there are 2 schools of thought:
1) Either all in on spirit drop physical
2) Aqua Split / Bloodmoon (or both ON) caster - Both are good so it just depends on the situation / fight

1) All moves are OFF, except pictured, AND Flash Step can be ON or OFF as you see it work

2) According to the links Eizen can either be a caster or a melee god, I have only gotten the melee god side of things to be viable and even then its more of a late/end/post game sorta thing.

Party Formation / Best Comps
GENERAL:
  • Velvets AI is awful (dies out of theanized form often) so if you are not playing her then id bench her. This only occurs as velvets AI is easily the worst in the game in terms of fulfilling their own gameplay loop
  • Eizen is late/end game / NG+ in terms of power curve, so using him early is not recommended
When looking at the various links and in the [Play Guides section] you might see some built-in character synergies, but if you want just base party layouts then here we go:

Phi’s Hearm:
Party: Velvet, Phi, Mogilou, Elanor
This party is listed as one of the best as velvet (Player 1) can nearly freely DPS while Elanor and Phi provide AOE hitstun on the enemies and mogilou can be an option select as anti-magic vs casters or damage/hitstun with her spells
NOTE- if you are just playing velvet then this is said among the community (links) to be the best party

Swap-City
Party: [Eizen / Roukurou], Phi, Mogilou, Elanor

This is the “safe” option select if you wanted to play anyone other than Velvet, as stated below, the player 1 is just DPS
NOTE – I recommend Roukurou if its not later into the game or NG+

Brothers
Party: Roukurou, Eizen, Phi, Elanor

This is the “Crazy-kooky-fun” option select if you wanted to play anyone other than Velvet, this comp is very single target heavy with crazy stun potential while Phi and Elanor hit-stun the rest of the mobs, good vs all melee, but struggles on enemies with high movement, quick casts, or a lot of AOE. Best for the early-mid game not caster mobs and single target boss fights that don’t have burst

BiS (Best in Slot) Gear
This is my table of BiS gear and the deep dive can be found within the links

The link and I dont agree on everything, but the majority is there and even with different styles for some of the characters

Quick play guides and Advanced Tech?
Generally:
  • Never be max souls (the star things)
  • The enhanced guard states (the 3 rings (once you get the cool potentiates)) are very strong and if you cant get in (guard break) or are low in usable souls (gray souls) you should be guarding to get the 3 rings then try again (should guard when combat starts to nearly guarantee free combo starts by the time the enemies get to you)
  • Know the weakness typing of the enemies so that moves hit more / deal more damage/ get you more souls (find the typing in the target switch menu in combat or check the monster book)
  • Combo starters should try to be as fast and end lag free as possible
  • ^Unless you know the typing then it will most likely land , and if you also have your guard rings
  • the perfect guard is rather generous (quick step and get hit in the step), it will only deal 1 damage, so if you can get use to the timing it will save you many times
  • perfect guarding multi-hits can be just flicking the stick back and forth while guarding
  • watch the aggro of the enemies and position accordingly as only Velvet and Rokurou have get out of jail free cards
  • mystic artes cancel all casting and active spells in battle so if you need to break a cast / get rid of an effect then you could by mystic arteing
Velvet:
Main Objective: stay theonized
  • Get souls by weakness hitting/ status inflicting/ killing / in a pinch or max bg use mystic arte
  • The timer/health bar decreases faster the longer you're in the theonized form so if you can reset (do the theonized ender and retheonize) safely then do it
  • Health regen should be by break souls (lower difficulties are different but this is from the perspective of chaos)
Rokurou:
Main Objective: counter hit everything
  • More or less hardest character to play as you gotta know the active frames of alot of the attack moves of the enemies so you can counter hit and either start your combo or perfect guard/quickstep
  • Spell casters are change the gameplay loop entirely, while you focus an enemy you can counter a spell to change targets to them and you just bounce between enemies and hope your souls count can keep up in multi-caster situations. ----Magilou can help the situation with her break soul
  • Take more one on one fights as most moves do not have AoE
Eleanor:
Main Objective: mass AoE and ability to pick out enemies / hit stun lock with another character
  • Most abilities have long active frames and sweep in some capacity so either grouping or knocking away enemies is easy
  • One of the best comboing characters in the game along with Phi
Phi:
Main Objective: AoE magic hit-stun-lock / damage mitigation
  • With either geostigma or preferably kaleidoscope ray you can trap multiple enemies with hit stun
  • With your break soul you can help the team with damage mitigation and soul generation
  • Note that the timer for the break soul is refreshed when chained so wait till the last phase is almost gone to break another soul for maximum time in each phase
Magilou:
Main Objective: anti magic / combo starter
  • in either of her modes "LOOK! A-SHOOTING-STAR" or mage (aqua split/ blood moon depending on weaknesses) breaking guards/ hit-stunning enemies allows the other characters to begin their own combos
  • with her break soul you can stop the enemies from casting (note that it stops all casting so if you have multiple enemies wait till the first spell is almost cast then hit it as there might be multiple casts you can deny at once)
Eizen:
Main Objective: stun god
  • When kitted properly nearly any hit from Eizen will stun nearly anyone so you can stun someone then combo them till their stun resistance is over then restun them with help from the others
  • Great one on ones / boss fights with his heal enabling faster movement

Use at your own risk
Chaining mystic artes: hold L2 / LT and the d-pad direction of the character you want to make do the next mystic arte.

NOTE: Some of the links say you need a potentiate or to be in NG+ but i cant remember what the thing was actually that you needed.

Sifnix024 -
For chaining mystic artes you can do it the moment you unlock them no extra potentiate or ng+ needed

start the chain with a dual and then if you you switch to char whichs partnerr is in sub right now and both have enough bg they will do a dual but now the intresting part durin a chains you don't need 5bg both chars just need to have enough to do any mystic so if you have a item with -1 cost you can do dual with just 2 bg on each char and this makes it possible to do infinite chains

2.) That's again my bad il list the extras in the comments for you and then update the guide with the same text with you as the creditor

Velvet: clipped the top 2 rows (all ON) and the bottom row [1 move], OFF(but its in the text by the picture):
Slicing foot: ON, Tearing Thorn: ON, Gouging Spin: ON
Swallows Dance: ON, Twin Whip: ON, Avalanche Fang: ON
These are true to text, but I will elaborate for clarity.

Rokurou: True to text all on except for pictured moves

Eleanor: True to text all on, but pictured and double rush
EXCEPT inspiration should be off if your on hard or upper difficulties
removing paralysis is strong tho so you will prob manually cast it when needed

Laphicet: Unchanged from guide

Magilou: Unchanged from guide

Eizen: All off except pictured AND Flash Step can be on or off as you see it work

If further questions/elaboration is need please let me know!
