DSB Litra E Steam Locomotive

Description
This is the danish steam engine nr. 999, of the E class locomotives, also refered to as Litra E's. These machines were capable of running at 110 km/h, pulling the main express trains throughout the country. Later on, when dieselication started to replace steam engines, these beasts were put on local train service and freight service, until being completely phaced out by diesel engines, in the early 70'ies. When the danish king Frederick IX died, his body was transported from Copenhagen to Roskilde by rail, on 14 January 1972, with the train being double-headed by two Litra E's.

In Stormworks, this locomotive has been turned into a hybrid, Diesel-electric-steam engine (yes, all three of them). It has a diesel engine powering the generator for all the trains electronics, and have a mixed steam-electric engine powering it's wheels. Because we don't have real cylinders in-game, I've had to make a set of drivers, reesembling the real life driving wheels as close as possible. For some weird reason, the engine is capable of moving with these driving wheels in the arctic, but not anywhere else on the map. The engine, despite being a 4-6-2 Pacific in real life, is forced to be a 4-6-4 hudson type locomotive, due to the lack of train wheels in Stormworks. The main set of drivers also have their own throttle lever, free of the actual throttle controlling the engine, to simulate the train going forwards and backwards.

As stated above, the engine was capable of running at 110 km/h with a fully loaded express train. Sadly however, this speed can only be reeched in-game when only the tender is coupled up to the locomotive, and both the electric engines and steam engine is running at full capacity. With three passenger cars connected to the train, it maxes out a an embarrassing 45 km/h. I've done everything I could to make the engine go faster, but I was unable to increase it's perfomance.

Where it lacks in speed however, it makes up for with range. It easily has enough coal to make a trip to the arctic, and if fully refueled, is capable to make a round trip back to the starting point of the journey. While traveling, you need to check you fire constantly, to avoid it going out. Also a quick thing about it's paintjob: No Litra E's where ever painted in this specific livery. It has been designed and created by me, specially for this locomotive.

Thanks to Xcinos, for making the air brake system used on the locomotive, aswell as on the specifically built passenger cars:

This locomotive, and it's passenger cars have been constructed in homage to my late grandfather, who sadly passed away three weeks ago, as of this initial upload. He's been with me all the time whilst growing up, and I can definitely say, he's part the reason I am the person I am today. I have therefore named the engine, Niels, in his honour. May he forever be remembered.

Rest In Peace dear Grandfather

Remember to have fun with the people you love and cherish, and spend as much time with them as possible, for you may never know when you will loose them.

May all of you enjoy this creation, and the cars built to go along with it. Please, don't reupload this, unless sharing no resemblance to the original creation. Modifying for personnal use is allowed.

Perhaps you hit the reverse button by mistake. it's on the left side of the controls, since a steam locomotive isn't really supposed to have a gearbox in it.

its only moving backwards when i turn up the throttle

I think you're forgetting to activate the airbrake on it. You need to activate it, and then release the brakes, and wait for the pressure to stabilize. To double check if the brakes are released, you can always check the bogey, to see if they are on or off.

Well, there is a limit as to how many cars it can pull, before going so slowly that it needs a helper engine. As for starting it up, it is a steam locomotive after all, so you need to put coal into the firebox from the tender, and wait for it to warm up the boiler, so you produce steam. You need to have the reverser open all the way, and then the engine throttle to control the electric engines. If it runs out of electricity, then make sure you engage the diesel generator. You acces it's start and fuel buttons in the bottom right of the controls.
