[Dizzy] Beds Need Bedding

Description
This simple mod makes any bed you build require Bedding, such as pillows, blankets, sheets. Bedding is simply a new resource you make at the crafting spot, or tailoring tables out of cloth or leathers. I made this as focused on the point as I could. There's no differing qualities to any of the types of bedding you make. If you want to, you can make Thrumbo fur bedding or Lizard skin bedding; they will act the same.

The quality of the bed construction, however, WILL impact the stats.

This mod standardizes a single bed at 35 stuff (wood, metal, stone) and a double bed at 65. Royal beds are up to 90 maybe 110 or so if the mod patched in added extra powers to their bed.

1 bedding: Single beds.
2 bedding: Double beds and hospital beds.
3 bedding: Royal beds.

After all, a bed made of only wood is not right. It is not fine.

The other important detail to this mod is that it is only going to use XML. No C# allowed. I want other modders to easily take it and do what they want with it, if they don't know C#. And I wanted it to be super lightweight and portable between Rimworld versions easily.

that one sounds tough to figure out. probably some mod that counts things or changes zones. but from my experience nearly anything because a lot of mod authors add extra bits they shouldn't and don't tell ya.

Okay, Ill try to test it with this mod being present only. Also, can you give me clues to look for for mod conflicts?

Just tested, and this is not behavior I am seeing. Asked to "do until 2," pawns made 2. Stacked in separate stacks. tested again. Asked "do until you have 4" they made two more and stacked them together (3 stacks) stopped making more, then consolidated (one stack). Made no more.

I suspect you have a mod conflict.

There is a problem. When bills are set to "do until X" the game counts the X as the number of stacks. So for example, when X set to 10 for bedding, the pawns try to make 10 full stacks at least, and that is at leasr 200 individual beddings,

Can you fix this issue?

How to? Do you think to make that simple bed not require bedding? That would be easy.

Could also move that simple bed to complex furniture tech which is the vanilla tech.

It gets complicated to move bedding to a special tech devised by VE mods. I grow weary of keeping up with their changes and constant re-balancing. And honestly don't use 95% of their mods anymore.

And honestly this sort of bloated furniture mid-step tech is exactly why I left VE behind ages ago. Use a bedroll or a real bed was my take.

If you open the Recipes_Production.xml you can change <researchPrerequisite>ComplexFurniture</researchPrerequisite> to whatever tech VE added for your own mod mod. :)

VFE adds a "basic furniture" research with a "simple bed" that requires bedding, but doesn't actually unlock bedding to craft. May you patch it so the "basic furniture" research does allow bedding?

It will not affect the quality of the bed, that is up to the maker. It's simply a requirement that you use some sort of textile to create a bed rather than simply wood or metal. So use a cheaper textile, don't waste Devilstrand on a bed.
