Description
The world famous narrow gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway opened in 1879, and was an important transporter of tea from the Himalayan tea estates down to the Indian plains. Before the railway was built, ox carts were used in a trek that took several days. The railway is built around and snakes its way along the eponymous Hill Cart Road and includes several cliff hanging loops and zig zags as well as countless level crossings.

It is regularly disrupted for months and even years due to being in a heavy earthquake and landslide prone area. Now the full journey from New Jalpaiguri Jn to Darjeeling takes a little over 7 hours, and has long been replaced with road transport taking a little under 4 hours. The Teesta Valley branch was closed in 1950 due to a massive wash out.

Currently the line is used mostly for tourism with the "Toy Train" between Darjeeling and Ghum being the main attraction, as it includes a stop at the Batasia Loop, where there is a spectacular war memorial for the Gorkha soldiers who lost their lives for Indian independence in 1947.

This map uses some of the interesting features of the railway, but is compressed to a playable size. Manual signals replace the flag signallers that can be seen at every junction and station.

Most of the timetable can be played at 5x speed.

I might make more timetables, but I would like the devs to separate map from timetable first, so it doesnt duplicate everything too much :steamhappy:
