LOADING ORDER:
1-Realistic Campaign
2-Chapter
3-All the other required mods
4- Extremely recommended ( but optional) for economy, food and technologies: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=396015150&searchtext=radious

EVEN IF YOU CAN SELECT ALL VANILLA FACTIONS THIS MOD HAS BEEN MADE TO BE PLAYED JUST WITH THE TWO ROMAN FACTIONS. SOMETIMES CRASHES IN THE FACTION SELECTION( I DON'T KNOW WHY), JUST TRY AGAIN AND IT WILL WORK. AFTER THAT YOU COULD PLAY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.

Historical Context:

With the death of Constantine I in 337 AD, the empire was divided between his three sons from his marriage to Fausta. Constantine II received Gaul, Spain and Britain. Constantius II was given Asia Minor, Egypt and Syria. Finally, Constans I obtained Italy, North Africa and Illyricum. Constantine II resented his brothers for not respecting his seniority as the eldest, and therefore the senior Augustus. Unhappy over the distribution of the provinces, he invaded Italy in 340 AD, only to be killed in an ambush by Constans' troops. Constans now assumed control of all the western provinces of the empire.

Constans was particularly disliked by the legions, and in 350 AD, he was overthrown by a military conspiracy and killed while fleeing to safety. The army elevated a barbarian officer called Magnentius as the new western emperor, bringing him into conflict with Constantius, the sole remaining son of Constantine I.

Constantius marched westward to avenge the murder of his brother. Magnentius decided to invade Illyricum, and initially his army performed very well. The situation changed dramatically when his troops encountered Constantius' cataphract cavalry at the Battle of Mursa on 28 September 351. The fighting involved 95,000 troops and left 55,000 casualties in one of the bloodiest battles in Roman history. Magnentius lost and fled to northern Italy, while Constantius slowly regained control of Africa, Spain, and southern Italy. Magnentius decided to retreat into Gaul, where Constantius defeated him again at Mons Seleucus on 3 July 353. Magnentius fled to Lugdunum and committed suicide with his sword on 11 August 353. Constantius had Magnentius' followers and supporters investigated, tortured and killed.

Historians agree that the losses of this war were too expensive for the occident army.

Changelog:

1- Roman units, emperors and generals total reskin

2- Size increased( Startpos and campaign,Melee infantry 400, missile infantry 300, cavalry 120)

3- The starting position of some barbaric kingdoms has been changed to represent a more historically accurate scenario.

4- Diplomatic effects have been changed so now small factions will respect bigger ones, getting into deals easily. This wants to reproduce the real situation of the epoch where the small barbarian kingdoms tended to respect the more powerful Rome even if they had periodic wars.

5- Ai improvement, more changeling campaign where the Ai will be more aggressive. Nevertheless, this in hand with point 4 will reproduce in global, harder wars with the Ai but less common. So to win a war against will be harder than in vanilla but you will have wars with fewer factions( if you use diplomatics wisely)

6- 12 turns per year

7- New battle system with more realistic morale system as well as slower combat. The spacing of the German factions has been increased and the one of the Romans decreased, trying to reproduce a more historically accurate situation. I have just transpose one of my battle mods to this one, you can see the entire battle changelog here:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2204246229&searchtext=realistic

8- Ere has Dalmatia and armenia is his puppuet state.

9- Africa and Britannia superior provinces have a -100 public penalty in order to represent the historical unrest.

10- Alammani are in war with WRE and they have a defensive alliance with ERE in order to represent their historical treaty. Even if they still have bad relations.

11- The garrisons of dalmatia would support WRE in battles, this wants to represent the concept that the armies of Illyricum were against Constantius even if they were formally by his side after Vetranios abdication. You could solve this just upgrading the towns forming new garrisons.

12- All cities walled. Minor cities have 8m walls and major cities have 15m walls.

playing through as the west this time to defend against constantius also very fun... BUT alot of the northern settlements are bugged. The port cities in Britannia and Gaul instantly crash the game if it comes from the sea especially

just finished a play through... was very fun, but NEED NEED NEED join empire mechanic! i killed the western emporer by lugdunum in spring 353 but it was a slog to get the rest of his territory. meanwhile sassanids are still playing like its 4 turns per year knockin every other turn with no peace allowed

Arrian76: it seems proper, i will check if the chapter has an error.

What is the proper load order? I believe I managed to follow the tutorial properly. The reason I ask is that though it seems to mostly work, the seasons are not changing and there are some glitchy building slots (the glitch appears just graphical). Right now my load order is the 5 rome II asset mods, then Chapter VII, then Rome Era Cities, then Rome Era Reform IV to VI.

Also: agree on why the Empire fell (to the extent there is only 1 reason)!

these mini campaigns really breathe new life into this game, the fantasy mods are fun, but reliving history to the best
