Hello folks.
I'm very happy to present to you my newest creation: Dark Matter
This is a follow up to the Infinity Engine, and Expedition Icarus.

Warning: if you really dont like the creepy crawlies, you might want to give this one a miss.

The Story:
Dark Matter: Infinity Engine Part 3

2021: Mankind discovers a massive, ancient machine of unknown origin, buried deep beneath the Ural mountains, upon discovery the machine becomes active for a short duration, before once again seeming to become dormant, the strange device is given the name The Infinity Engine. International conferences are held about what to do do with this discovery. At the same time, many theories are put forth about its who built it, and what its purpose is, some believe it may be of alien origin.

2047: Wombat Corp scientist are able to activate the Infinity Engine, when this happens, muliple portals open up to other starsystems. Expeditions are launched by various nations to explore and colonise the many new worlds now within reach.

2074: On a small moon orbiting a gas giant in a distant star system, connected to earth via a portal, a colony known as Neo Tokyo has slowly been growing over the decades. and has become a thriving metropolis and trade hub.
A mining operation on the outskirts of the colony, uncovers what appears to be another Infinity Engine, based on wombat corp records from the first device back on earth, they are able to get it online,
once the machine comes online, new portals open to various new stars sytems.

2077: Back on earth it is theorised that there are multiple Infinity Engines spread throughout the galaxy, making up an interstellar network, this is given the name The Infinity Network. New expeditions are launched to find these other machines. The debate about the origin of the machines is still ongoing, most people now believe they are the remnant of some ancient interstellar civilisation, yet no one can say where they are now, or what happened to them.

2093: Another Infinity engine is located beneath the colony of Pelantos, buried deep beneath the surface, as the machine is brought online, new portals once again begin to open, creating gateways to even more new worlds.

2118: Almost 100 years after the discovery of the first Infinity Engine, a fourth one is found on a recently colonised planet, scientists and technicians begin to bring the machine online, as they do so, the other machines in the infinity network begin to react, and appear to synchronise with each other, something that has not happened before. Suddenly a new portal opens in the sky above the newly activated Infinity Engine. This portal is different to the others, where the other portals resembled wells, or whirlpools, this one resembles a tear or a cut, as if someone has taken a giant knife and sliced through the very fabric of reality. Upon closer inspection, it appears this portal does not seem to lead to any other known star systems. In fact, it does not appear to lead to anywhere in the known universe. The new portal is named the rift, multiple expeditions are sent to explore it, none of them return.

July 2021
One of the expedition vehicles sent through the rift comes back through, only a single member of the original crew of 30 is still on board.
Upon debriefing, the crewman appears to have lost his mind, babbling incorherently about endless realities, and interdimensional beings.
Although it has been two years since the his expedition set out, his personal data unit only records a few minutes to have passed since they set out.
When asked what happens to the rest of the crew, he grows silent, a look of abject terror in his eyes.

Shortly after ejecting the expedition vehicle, the rift begins to grow, first slowly, but quickly picking up speed.
With this new information, and with the tear in space growing faster and faster, threatening to cut the system in half, a new expedition is launched into the rift.
