Intro
Hello there

Stuck with those empty frames just sitting in your Backpack or on the ground looking useless?

This is a quick guide on how to make those frames into something more.

In this guide i'll just be going over on how to make those confusing frames into the defense barriers your looking to make em. From just your basic wooden block to make those quick but effective forts to the Reinforced Cobblestone block for that Fortress guarding that territory you and your friends claimed.

This was made in 7.9

**As of Update 8.2 they finally added Sorted Types to the Crafting window, and also it shows what it takes to make the items but won't give the name of the material to make it. Another neat thing they did was add a color background to the different class of items/Tools, So its much easier visually to know what items do what.***

***8.3, They changed Hardness of Concrete, Cobblestone and metal, also their resistance to Explosions, I'll need to see what they exactly did and will update with numbers later***
Supplies
First off you need to get some supplies and your caveman tool, in this case for 7.10 they made the Stone axe similar to the repair wrench. ****In 8.1 the Repair wrench will be your prefered Tool as it can now upgrade Frames faster than the Stone Axe and also repair faster****

The supplies I'll leave to your way of getting them. Either by mining, harvesting, scavenging, trading or even Stealing them off your unlucky neighbors.

What you'll need will diiffer between what you want to build for defenses. but the choices are as follows...

Wood and Scrap Iron. For the wooden doors and blocks if you haven't guessed already.

and/OR

Scrap Iron, Iron ingots(made into Pipes and LOTS OF THEM), Gravel(Also big quantities), Clay(for Cement mold only made once and done), and last but not least STONE.
Now seeing the difference the cobblestone is for later ingame once you get your resources together and you have a decent base to start making it all.

Here's a Screenshot of the Basic Materials that you need to make at least one of each type. What you need is on the top 2 rows and what they make is on the bottom row of the backpack. Whats shown in craft window is how to make the Cement Mold.
Making your wooden Blocks and Doors
Now, after you've collected what you think is a good start for your basic resources, the Wooden frames are by far the easiest to make. All you need(well you guessed it) are planks!! to make em. Once you have made your Frames building your wooden block house is as simple as placing the Frames down as if they are the normal wooden blocks(7.9) and then taking your Caveman tool(stone Axe) and right clicking the frames(7.10).

****Frames Can Now Be Picked Back Up after Placing(8.0)****

Make sure though you have Wooden planks and the Scrap metal still in your backpack to "upgrade" frames into wooden blocks(we all know) and then into reinforced(scrap metal) blocks yay \o/.

Same AS above, the process goes for the wooden doors as well.

These pics show the difference you'll see in both the Blocks and Doors(which can now be locked)

The LOOONG process of Cobblestone. But worth it :)
Cobblestone, compared to the wooden frames cobblestone is like going from walking in a strait line to BEE line. Seriously 3 processes for the wooden frames to like 10+ for the Cobblestone.

ANYWAYS...FIrst you Need a forge, make your iron ingots and turn them into pipes, Plenty of them and I mean TONS OF THEM(8 X 100frames = 800 pipes -_-). But leave enough scrap iron for upgrading later. 8 pipes for one rebarcobblestone Frame.

Next make cement. not the blocks just cement in powder form(7.10 Added), which is either made by

A: gravel(better choice)

OR
B: stone(worse choice as its needed for cobblestones, but can be used if you can't find gravel)

Place either or into the forge with the new clay cement mold(Both Stone and Gravel make the same amount of cement). This takes quite awhile to make.

After you think you have enough cement.... make more, basically double what you need to make the cobblestone, as you'll need even more cobblestone for upgrading it. Now make your cobblestone using the cement + stone.

After this start placing your rebar and build the framework of the Fort your making, either upgrading as you go or wait till placement is done. Each Frame can be picked back up, though each time you upgrade your frame its basically adding another block in that one spot. Your choice really, but In other words after upgrading your frame 3 times. You have to destroy 4 blocks worth of the upgrade type.
So Metal Reinforced Cobbletone -> Cobblestone reinforced -> Cobblestone -> Frame in order to remove block completely :D

Fin

Pic above is Patch 7.11...
Pic Below is Patch 8.0...

Just want to Add that Cement blocks(Between the wood and cobblestone columns in Top pic Above) can be made by using cement and gravel(7.10 added). 1x1 same spots used to make the Cobblestones. Also the original way is still Viable.

Also Metal Trussing Can now be made 3 blocks at a Time(above Right), A little Harder than the RebarCobblestone Frame but same Load Cap.

***8.2 Added Ramp and Canged Name of the rebarcobblestone to Just Rebar Frame, Also added the Ramp version***

Well this is the end of the quick guide on how to make your frames... well not frames.

This patch 8.0 is really something, keep them coming PIMPS! :)

Hope this helps people, please comment and let me know how I did on my first guide and what should change.

Glad that this guide has helped :)... I've been waiting for a patch that would change what this guide is about so hopefully there's one soon...

As for the concrete its still frameless so the upgraded versions of it are made via crafting window. though it is weaker compared to the cobblestone in terms of effort to remove the whole block. As explained at the end of the Looong process of cobblestone :)
