Description

Some creatures can eat rotting corpses, so let them do it!

This mod enables the eating of rotting or dessicated corpses. Due to the implementation the corpses are eatable by all pawns but only the creatures defined in the settings will actively eat them and they will not get food-poisoning from the corpses.
Rotting corpses will now have 50% of the original nutrition value
Dessicated corpses will have 25% of the original nutrition value

Save game compatible and supports all creatures/races.

Made it as a companion mod to the Rats! mod for those who wanted a way to take care of their corpses with a rat-farm.

Do animals get food poisoning from eating rotting remains? I hope not.

@Skaadi This only affects animals

If I were to have a xenotype that wouldn't get food poisoning - would colonists actually go for rotting/desiccated corpses with this? Or are they still subject to the vanilla 30% malnutrition requirement to count as 'desperate' in order to go for it automatically?

All the rats still get food poisoning when eating rotten corpses, so a couple days after a battle the forest is completly covert in rat vomit.

well I learned today that HERBivores like eating bones because it gives them phosphorous that they don't get from vegetation.

All animals who can eat rotten or desiccated corpses just can't stop eating them even after they're full.

More info about this issue with Some Like It Rotten and Wild Animal Reproduction mod. I had a Nightling (Alpha Animals) that i wanted to stop getting food poisoning so I checked both boxes in SLIR to let it eat corpses safely. It then proceeded to walk into my food storage and begin eating nonstop even while full. Notably other creatures, all alpha animals, didn't have this bug yet. When I went back into SLIR settings and unchecked the boxes the nightling immediately fell over with food poisoning and stopped eating constantly. I checked both boxes for my Feralisk (Alpha Animals) and the constant eating bug does not appear to trigger until the animal would get food poisoning. Then the moment you uncheck the SLIR boxes they immediately get food poisoning and the bug subsides.

Perhaps it has something with how a hungerbar goes down with foodpoisoning vomit but it can't trigger so the animal sees itself as hungry with a full bar. I wonder why it fights with WAR specifically.

Can confirm the conflicts below.

I had a griffin from MM turn into an opium addict. It then was passed out holding up a caravan, because it was ...strung out. When it woke up, it refused to go without some of that beloved poppy nectar packed away.
