Description
Note: This character is made for the Rivals Of Aether Workshop Jam. He's an unorthodox alien from the stars who uses strange, floaty movement with an aggressive zoning playstyle to get big combos, and can create a void to slow the opponents down to get better followups.

Basic Mechanics:

Instead of a parry like standard rivals, Cosmonaut comes equipped with a foreign shield. He can use it to instantly block attacks without much risk and whiff punish. While shielding, he can do a number of different actions to immediately cancel, being jump, up strong, up b, and roll.

Additionally, he has a Spotdodge, a roll which keeps him in place instead of moving forward or backwards. He can do this out of shield as well.

Unlike most characters, Cosmonauts aerials do not stop when he lands by default. Since he doesnt "Land" traditionally, instead he will float on the ground while finishing them... Unless he hits someone. On hit, he can "land cancel" them into attacks, specials, strongs, or jump. This is especially good for his multihit aerials (Nair, Up air, and Dair) and can lead to extremely long combos or early stocks when used correctly.

Cosmonaut has a momentum mechanic with his ground movement. Instead of his walk, dash, etc. speeding up and slowing down a set amount when you press forward, he will gain speed over time, which means he can potentially gain very high speeds. This is especially useful because of his high air mobility, letting him chase you down and extend more than normal rivals can. Additionally, he has a gravity jump which goes very high and lets him double jump cancel his aerials. However, because of his momentum, its hard for him to slow down without commiting to an option.

Because of his very low fall speed, he has the ability to airdodge at any point while rising as long as its not immedietly after jumping or double jumping, as well.

Finally, Cosmonaut has more control over his airdodge than the average character. He can move both up and down while mid airdodge, which lets him do arcs and semicircles. To compensate, both rolls and airdodge dont go as far normally.

Specials

Cosmonauts Neutral Special is a hover. Using this move lets him stall in the air for a moment before letting go and getting rid of his jetpack. If you release the button or the time runs out, a small projectile will be released. However, you can also cancel the move by using an attack or other special, which has no lag but doesnt create a projectile. Additionally, he can press the shield button during the move to immedietly cancel into an idle air state, which multiplies your momentum which can allow fast movement.

Using this move while theres a void on stage will slowly pull it towards you.

Side Special is a simple star shot with little lag. It has great combo potential as it has a fair bit of hitpause and can control airspace easily. Additionally, the projectile is affected by your Void from Down Special, switching its trajectory. If it hits someone whos inside the field, it has a tiny bit more hitpause and keeps them in hitstun for longer.

Up Special is a chargeable jetpack move which thrusts you up depending on how long you held the moves charge. This is a pretty basic move on its own, but its important to point out that you can jump cancel it while its charging, which actually boosts your momentum, letting you slide far.

With your Down Special, you can create a Void, which does a number of things. By default, it slows down your gravity unless you're holding down (Along with your opponents), and does slight damage over time to anyone but you who's inside. Additionally, if the opponent is hit and inside the void, they'll be slowed down exponentially to let you get combos and kill confirms. Once the void is out, you can move it by using either Neutral Special, which slowly pulls it towards you, or tapping Down Special again, which launches it towards you. Finally, if you hold down special, it'll explode after a short delay which covers a lot of space and kills. Be wary, though, as the opponent can hit it and destroy it, and it goes on a fairly long cooldown when destroyed by any means.

Love the idea of this character I just wish it was larger... maybe im just bad at air control lol
The effort and and execution of this character is great they are just a little small. This is a comment from a single person so dont take it too much to heart. Thank you for the character!
