Mavis (TV series)

In other words, Mavis is a Class 04 diesel shunter from The Railway Series (and later the Thomas the Tank Engine telly programme). She is a privately-owned locomotive who works at Anopha Quarry, which is the terminus of an extension to the Ffarquhar branch. She often works alongside a J70 tram engine named Toby.

When she first appeared in Season 3, Mavis was - to quote the narrator - young and full of her own ideas. After a few wise words from Toby, and rescuing him from a severely damaged bridge (check out the episodes ‘Mavis’ and ‘Toby’s Tightrope’), she has matured into a wiser figure and even a voice-of-reason for Bill and Ben during Season 6. Over the years - and into the CGI era - she has become a recurring character who still works in the quarry.
