7.29c (Support) Sol's Support Winter Wyvern Guide
By Solitude
Although this guide is primarily for Support-Play, please know that she can be utilized in other roles if necessary. Sometimes I even start off with the support role but then branch off to a higher position (2-3) if my team requires it. Winter Wyvern is otherwise an excellent character if you want to take control of the battlefield, especially in team fights.

Positioning is crucial and probably the most critical aspect of playing this character. Her first ability, "Artic Burn," allows her to attack safely from a distance, and her second ability, "Winter's Blast," will enable her to spam a moderate amount of magical damage. However, her ultimate "Winter's Curse" requires you to close the distance, which is why I recommend primarily utilizing this ability as a counter-initiation method and wait till you purchase an Aether Lens, Blink Dagger, or both before you start prioritizing initiation.

Having so much control of the battlefield can be as much of a blessing as it is a curse. Your abilities, primarily your third and your ultimate, have the potential of either turning your teammate into a vulnerable statue or providing your enemies with protection. You have to analyze the battlefield when deciding to use these abilities and make sure that you're not playing third-impostor.

Itemization, as with most characters, is extremely important. This guide is centered around acquiring the Shard and Holy Locket, enabling you to have a powerful and battle-defining heal every 5 seconds. Not only that, but your heal will now also damage nearby enemies. Use your heal whenever possible! Sometimes when you're confident that an ally will not need any healing for the next 5 seconds and there are enemies nearby, use your heal on a friendly creep and get some damage output on your enemies! You'd be surprised at the amount of damage that two back-to-back Splinter Blasts will do on the enemy team.

After acquiring those items, focus on an Aether Lens, Blink Dagger, or both. However, if you find yourself dying, you might need a defensive item; so consider picking up a Glimmer Cape before or after your third item or another defensive item that is more appropriate for the battle scene. If the enemy has incredibly high magical damage output, consider getting a Glimmer Cape even before purchasing the Holy Locket.

Lastly, knowing when to utilize your ultimate ability will be an essential factor in whether or not you win the game. It goes without saying that you should target squishier heroes, but this doesn't always have to be the case! If a vital enemy hero is low on health and it looks like they're going to escape the battlefield before their well-deserved death. Ult them! Attack them from afar with your Artic Burn; double your Splinter Blast output by targeting an enemy and a friendly creep with a heal. You'll either kill them or give your team another opportunity to finish them off.

Side Note: If you're going the damage-items route. Make sure you pick up the 50+ damage as your first talent instead of the heal. The winter shard can still be useful, but at this point, it'd be best if you forget about the Holy Locket. You might also consider picking up 275+ Health and the 12% Arctic Burn instead.
