Description
Run your game with realistic models. If you don't your game may crash!

This is a version for Barbarian Invasion. For Vanila Rome total war please check "Hold the line Vanila" mod.

This mode changes unit-stats to be, like they were in the Romma Surrectum 3 mod, more control in battle, more realistic formations and unit stats, more room for tactics. Soldiers fight shoulder to shoulder. Soldiers do not walk alone into the enemy lines anymore. No more routs in 5 seconds.

!!! This changes apply only if you play with Remastered Units settings! If you keep Classic you will have classic stats as well and the game will very likely crash!!!

SO!
I find it frustrating how shield-wall formation does not work in RTW and MTW2.
If you put a unit into a shield-wall formation they brake it as soon as the first enemy touches them. Frustrated how widely spread the soldiers in the unit are. One single unit stretches through entire street.... Not with this mod!

This is my solution:

-I make the standard formation as tight as a shield-wall is and narrowed the spacing between the soldiers during the fight so the do not brake the formation when on "guard mode". When you deselect the "guard mode" the unit will as one slowly push the enemy and chop them. Tighter unit formations behave better in the streets.

-If you want the Vanila standard spacing of the unit just click on "loose formation" and unit will stand as in Vanila (useful when you move another unit through them)

-BI: getting rid of Shield wall made some space for juicy testudo for Romans (I know its not historical during the BI but I like it! If you don't, just don't click it, after playing RTW for 16 years I know that AI does not use it anyway so no harm done)

- you can absolutely rule the battlefield with stamina management: When the unit is on "guard mode" the do not get tired as fast as when "not on guard" You can let the enemy get tired on your line, than release the "guard mode" chop some of them. When your soldiers are winded put them on guard mode to hold the line again and let the reserves take the initiative. You can cycle your first and second line until the enemy is defeated. Very useful if using heavy infantry and there is no way to outflank the enemy, for example city-streets.

Unit changes:
-Overall units have more defense, armor and elite ones more attack, Cavalry has massive charge bonus so do that cycle-charging! In prolonged battle thy get slaughtered as it should be! Archers have more range and DMG to counter higher armor stats. But do not shoot units front on. Waste of ammo! flank them. Shoot them from behind

-Western Romans can recruit mos of the eastern units as well
-Auxilia Palatina is now elite Comitatenses Unit (I wanted them to have pilas as well, original model does not have
it and I have no idea how to mod it, that's why they have to sacrifice spears. Think of them now as of a Praetorians

- Eastern and western roman generals now have armored horses
-western roman general changed from helmetless German kinky Cavalry to Palatina cavalry with armored
horses, much much nicer!
-as mentioned roman units can do testudo, limitani and lanciarii can do a schiltron as many other spear-based units.

I would like to thank the Roma Surrectum Team for the best mode ever. I can't play vanila anymore. Surrectum spoiled me and this mod is the Tribute to them until they make another masterpiece.

Not yet. I was already looking for some mods with new models. There is not a single one with new models for BI. All have the same old models just with new colors.

No problem Arcaion, thank you so much for the work you put into this great mod. One more thing: the charge bonus for the Sassanid clibinarii is set to 4, which seems a little low since most cavalry has a charge bonus in the 30s.

thank you for a nice constructive feedback. I will have a look at it in the future when i get more time for it. It will be be a lot of work considering that i will have to rebalance mounts HP alongside so the cavalry do not get sluagtered by few volleys. But Thanks again. I do not have time myself to check on every aspekt to give it a balance. Cments like yours are important.

Hey this is a really good mod, and I enjoy the balance and mechanics you've come up with except that I feel projectiles are a little too weak from the front. I know that's your intention, but I found that five units of eastern archers shooting at a unit of gothic warriors from the front are only able to produce 0-3 casualties before melee contact. Pila do little to nothing as well, which goes against my understanding of their intended use: as precursors before hand to hand combat. I agree that projectiles could be a little less lethal, although I don't mind the vanilla projectile balance that much in BI, but they're so limp here that I can just ignore it if the enemy brings them. I don't understand what the point of the tetsudo formation is if you don't need it to resist missiles from the front. Like I said I love every other aspect of the balance for this mod, but I thought I'd give this feedback anyway.

Never noticed this until now, but Auxilia Palatina are marked as Spearmen, even though they use Swords/Shields, yet still have a bonus against Cavalry.
