Classification of ships
De Just Alexus
Hello everyone.
I would ike to suggest my own system of classification of ships in game..
Basic ideas taken from Freelancer game.
If you have some ideas, suggestions, or questions - write it, do not hesitate.

Beginning
My system says, that every ship have it's own Classification Code Ship Name, or, abbreviated, CCSN.
CCSN consisting of 6 parts and looks like something like this: LMS 7010BA150 or TCF0000CMA5.

CCSN parts:

1. Ship class
2. Needed for full tangage energy
3. Amout of gyroskopes per 1000 kg
4. Types of installed thrusters
5. The heaviest type of installed weapons
6. The exact number of crew members

CCSN worlds in square brackets, after name given to ship it's creator, for example, “Raven [LMS 7010BA150]” (without the quotes). In case, when you build a new ship onto already made basis, or ship altered / restored with minor changes, after the name and before CCSN specifies the version after the letters "mk." with point - Roman numerals, if the version less then 20, or Arabic numerals, if it is 20 or more, for example: “Raven mk.VII [LMS 7010BA150]” (without the quotes); “Raven mk.42 [LMS 7010BA150]” (without the quotes).
Classes of ships
This section will be divided into four different sections, due to restrictions on the size of the text:
1. Fighters F [-F]
2. MotherShips MS [-MS]
3. Cargo Freighters CF [-CF]
4. Serving ships (Boats) B [--B]

I note that this classification is approximate. In certain situations, present class may include the ship has certain differences from the configuration described here.

Let's take for example a ship LMS 7010BA150 and explore, what it's CCSN means.
Fighters
Small Fighter [SF]
Small blocks, light armor. Crew: 1 men. Equipped only with mashine guns; necessary minimum of reactors. Amount of maneuvering thrusters and gyroscopes provides good maneuverability. Very rarely it has large thrusters installed.

Example: Box [SF 6805DD1]

Heavy Fighter [HF]
Small blocks, heavy armor. Crew: 1 men. Equipped with machine guns and rocket salvo systems. Power has some margin. Gyroscopes and maneuvering thrusters are installed for the purpose of good mobility, but not at the expense of weight and power per ship. Often has 1-2 large thrusters installed.

Example: Bulldog [0002CC1]

Massive Fighter [MF]
Large blocks, heavy armor. Crew: 2-6 people. Can be equipped with any possible weapons. Has power margin up to 200%, low mobility. Usually has two march thrusters, rarely 1 or 3.

Example: Bonnet [1700DA1]
MotherShips
Gunboat MotherShip [GMS]
Only MS class ship, which, as usual, cannot transport other ships aboard.
Large blocks, heavy armor, usually two layers. Crew: 10 people or more. Gatling, sometimes missle turrets installed. Reactors have a limited supply of power (till 50%). Gyroscopes and shunting thrusters provide maneuvering room to maneuver in difficult conditions, for example, dodging heavy fire. Marching thrusters always large, shunting usually represent a block of several small.

Example: Dark Raven [GMS 3800CB8] (by Ben_[RU])

Cruiser MotherShip [CMS]
Large blocks, heave armor, usually two layers. Crew: 30 people or more. Turrets of all types installed. Have emergency supply of power (~10%), possibly protectad from outside forces. Maneuverability is average or slightly worse. Marching thrusters always large, shunting usually represent a block of several small and large, possible with a clear dominance of large. Have a first helping systems aboard. Can transport several (2-5) small ships aboard.

Example: Albatross [CMS 3700AA40] (by Ben_[RU])

Linear MotherShip [LMS]
The most massive kind of ships. Large blocks , heavy armor , usually in three layers or more. Crew: 100 people or more. Armed with a large number of all types of turrets. Have emergency supply of power (10-20%), the maximum protected from all possible external influences. Minimum maneuverability. Very rarely equipped with small thrusters. Marching thrusters abound, often divided into several units located in different parts of the ship's hull. Fully autonomous, has all life support and assembling systems aboard. Able to carry a large number (~ 50 and more) ships of classes F, B, CF ( except TCF) aboard.

Example: Avian [LMS 0800BA200] (by Orionzash)
.
Carrier MotherShip [CMS]
Able to conduct combat actions, but the first purpose is transportation small ships in big amount to a conflict area, for what the internal space is configured in the form of slots, where smal ships parking, or in the form of tube, where from ships flying out one by one. May be equipeed with weapons of any type. Has a minimum systems aboard with purpose of lowering value (to not sorry to lose). Crew rarely exceeds 10 people.

Example: Hornet [CMS 2800BB6]

Researching MotherShip [RMS]
The only MS class ship, the primary purpose of which is not the battles, but research activities. Size and structure similar to the WRB, as did the WRB, fully autonomous, however, in addition to systems installed on WRB, has some laboratories aboard, in particular chemical and biological intended to explore "friendliness" study environment in relation to man, and other opportunities. There are tools for peaceful and armed contact with unknown civilizations aboard. Number of engines coupled with high maneuverability and enough power allow to make an emergency evacuation of potentially dangerous areas.

Example: Curiousity [RMS 2100CB16]

So, our example ship LMS 7010BA150 belongs to a class of Linear MotherShips.
Cargo Freighters
Cargo Freighters [-CF]
Common class features: average number of gyroscopes, sufficient number of maneuvering thrusters, power factor propulsion of march thrusters are usually much higher other classes.

Small Cargo Freighter [SCF] “Shullte”
Small blocks, light armor. Crew - 1 men. Equipped with 1-2 containers medium, rarely large size. Has open access to the containers. Do not hold weapons. Very rarely equipped with large thrusters.

Example: Inlight [SCF 8404BE1]

Large Cargo Freighter [LCF]
Small blocks, heavy armor. Crew: 1-2 people. Equipped with 2-3 large containers in a row, or a triangle. Access to containers may be open on one side (if the containers are arranged in a row), or may be a passage to the interior in the rear of the ship, where is access to the containers. A certain amount of weapons can be installed. Usually equipped with two large marching thrusters.

Example: Twin [LCF 0000CD2]

Massive Cargo Freighter [MCF]
Large blocks, heavy armor. Crew: 3-4 people. Equipped with 3-4 large containers in one row or 6-10 in two rows. Access to containers may be with hinged cover on board (1 row) or with a technical passage between rows of containers (1 or 2 rows). Unit is equipped with a block of large march engines, sometimes in combination with a small amount of small.

Example: Yellow Line [MCF 1400CE3]

Train Cargo Freighter [TCF] “Space Train”
Large blocks, light armor. Crew: 1-3 people. Designed to transport large cargoes over long distances. Looks like is an elongated "tube" with large containers arranged in a 1-3 rows. The third row is set rarely, and is located under the first two rows. It is accessed "from the ground". There is a technical pass set between the two upper rows to allow access to containers. Has a bond beam which countersigns containers together, where can be installed a number of turret weapons, usually machine-gun. May have or have not outer armor around containers. Also can not to have maneuvering thrusters, but only march and brake. Is unable to dock inside-parking (ie can not fly into the docking port of another ship or station). Practically defenseless, so requires accompanying fighters if it is possible.

Example: Straight [TCF 6400CB2]
Other purposes, serving boats
Common class features: small blocks (if other didn't sayd), light armor, good lighting, not so good maneuverability (to increase the accuracy of maneuvering) with low dynamics of dispersal usually.

Lift Loader Boat [LLB]
Purpose: external transportation of goods, such as details of ships for short distances and delivery to the desired site with maximum accuracy. To fulfill the objective has gears-hooks in the bow of the ship, which holds the load with precision maneuvering. Upon delivery of the goods at a relatively large distance keeps it with landing gears, occasionally for this purpose gears-hooks in the rear of the ship.

Example: Ball [LLB 5003DE1]

Repair Assembly Boat [RAB]
Large blocks. Generally looks like LLB, but have necessary for assmebling and disassembling some structures systems aboard. May be able to carry relatively small size designs inside, holding their with internal gears-hooks.

Example: Squrell [RAB 1300BE5]

Small Repair Boat [SRB]
Similar to LLB too, except for two things:
1. Landing gears cannot hold goods.
2. Considering the work in contact with unprotected people, usually has an elongated nose mount gears-hooks. Requires highly accurate maneuvering and feelings size of the ship from pilot.

Example: Noseboy mk.III [SRB 2603DE1]

Small Mining Boat [SMB] “Miner”
Purpose: extraction of resources from asteroids. Equipped with a certain number of drilling rigs in the bow of the ship, ore detector, also one or more cargo containers of any sizes for storage and subsequent transfer of the extracted resources.

Example: Compact [SMB 5203DE1]

Warehousing Resourses Boat [WRB]
Large blocks. Carries a large amount of cargo containers, systems for the allocation of mineral resources of the ore, occasionally the system to build simple structures. Has a dock for landing a certain number (up to 30) small ships (LF, HF, LLB, SRB, and, of course, SMB). Also, as can serve resource extraction away from large databases, must have at least a minimum set of basic life support systems, also a side turret weapons of all types.

Example: Marvin [WRB 2100BE9] (by Ben_[RU])

Passengers Transportation Boat [PTB]
Large blocks. Intended to carry a large number of passengers. Passenger seats can be standing (a large number of passengers on short distance), seating, sleeping or cryo. As a rule, poorly armed, so in potentially dangerous areas is requires fighters support. Surelly has on board medical and small cargo bay. More often than others equipped with rescue capsules.

Example: Piligrim [PTB 6700BB5]

Emergency Rescue Boat [ERB]
"Ship into the ship" - separately projected ship that is docked to another ship so that all major systems are connected and synchronized - it complements the gravitational field, its thrusters involved in acceleration and maneuvering, may be the passage from one part of the MotherShip to another. At the same time, may be an independent ship designed to evacuate people from the hazardous area. To do this, the MotherShip has installed system for fast "shooting" a rescue capsule with giving it sufficient momentum. Has a medical bay for emergency care aboard. Usually called by the name of the ship-owner. However, as the ERB can be any ship, being able to dock with the ship-owner.

Example: 110 [ERB 7800DE3]
Left: standalone, right: docked to a ship-owner
Needed for full tangage energy
Takes the first two digital signs after the ship class, after the space. In case, if this value is 100% or more, written digits 00, but if full tangage takes inappreciable energy costs in this mode - 01.

So, our taken in the beginning Linear Ship takes 70% of all it's power, when basic life support, march thrusters are on and other systems are off.
Amout of gyroskopes per 1000 kg
Indicated rounded up to one decimal place according to mathematical rules, takes 2 characters before the letter code name in the middle.
So, our ship LMS 7010BA150 has approximately 1.0 gyroscope for each ton. The number of gyroscopes it coincides in mass in tonnes. Assume it has a weight of 2 million tonnes - and, accordingly, about 2 million gyroscopes.
Types of installed thrusters
First letter in CCSN after ship class.
А - Ship do not have small thrusters aboard, all thrusters are large.
В - Shunting / brake thrusters can be small and large, or the layout of them together, marching thrusters only large.
С - Shunting / brake thrusters may be small or large, marching thrusters represent small and large layout.
D - All thrusters on ship are small.
In case, if, in addition thrusters used mass effect (artificial mass blocks), following this letter written letter M.

So, all marching thrusters on our Linear MotherShip LMS 7010BA150 are large, on the sides and on the bow of the ship large and small thrusters installed.
The heaviest type of installed weapons
This is the last letter in CCSN. That's easy:
А - missle turrets;
В - Gatling turrets;
С - direction finding missile launchers;
D - direction finding machine guns;
Е - ship do not have any weapons aboard.

So, on LMS 7010BA150 we can find any type of weapons, but the missile turrets there will be certainly.
Crew
The last digit in CCSN is the exact number of crew members. LMS 7010BA150 has 150 people of crew members.

@LOLCAT254 Wouldn't that be a Frigate or even a corvette/gunship?

There should be a larger class than the Motherships, something like the Fortress class. These ships would be built to survive near anything thrown at it and come out fighting. Basically a larger version of the Linear Mothership

there should be a Cruiser class, like a Smallish sized large ship with a few weapons to acompany Motherships or Cargo ships and service boats

Maximus Lucinuis , I repeat: picture will not help. Give me a link to ship in Workshop.
EvilDylan182 , it's because I started to write a classification earlier than developers made an artifical mass block. Thanks for pointing out this omission.

I have, but I cannot really identify the class my ship would be in. thats why I had Asked, other wise I wouldn't have.

I'm surprised there's no thruster class for a ship using gravity propulsion instead of marching thrusters, or only gravity propulsion (which is very hard to use).

Maximus Lucinuis , picture will not help to classify the ship. Please, read the classification carefully - and you'll can classify it yourself.
