Trolleybus 101

Description
roudly presenting Trolleybus 101.

Trolleybus 101 is a bus that can only drive by means of an electric motor with power supply via a double-pole overhead line and of which the chassis (BUT) and the electrical installation (EEC) (600V) are made in England. The body was manufactured by Verheul from Waddinxveen. Year of construction of the 101 is 1949.

Trolleybus 101 played a leading role during the opening of the trolley network in Arnhem, the capital of Gelderland, in September 1949. 36 vehicles were manufactured of this type of bus. After that there was a follow-up series of the type BUT, and that concerned 7 vehicles. Later there are trolleybuses of various make e.g. Leyland, Daf, Van Hool, Berkhof and Hess (latest model) purchased.

The trolleybus is the successor to the tram that was responsible for public transport in Arnhem until the Battle of Arnhem (1944). This battle for Arnhem brought an abrupt end to the tram network, which, including the depot, was completely destroyed.

Arnhem is the only city in the Netherlands where trolleybuses still run. Trolley buses once ran in Groningen (1928-1965) and Nijmegen (1952-1969). A trolleybus was even tested in Rotterdam in 1944. Trolley overhead lines were installed for this purpose in the Maastunnel, among others. However, it never came to exploitation.

Furthermore, there are cities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy and Greece where public transport is used, among other things, by trolleybuses. London was once one of the largest trolleybus cities in the world, where double-decker trolleybuses were used. Nowadays there are only trolley buses in England in a museum context. Many trolleybus cities can be found in Eastern Europe, Russia and in China.

The 101 served until 1972 (!!) after which it was decommissioned. A group of trolleybus enthusiasts, now united in the NTV (Dutch Trolleybus Association) has ensured that the 101 was preserved for posterity. The 101 summer rides run on Sundays in August. Every year it is reviewed which route is being driven.

In 1982, a group of enthusiastic drivers from the Municipal Transport Company took up the plan to restore the 101 with the assistance of the technical service of the Municipal Transport Company. That restoration was completed in 1984 and from that year onwards, the 101 regularly rides through Arnhem.

The trolleybus is an invention of the German engineer Werner von Siemens. The first trolleybus ran its first test drive in Berlin on April 29, 1882. The electricity was supplied via a double-pole overhead line on which a wheeled trolley (trolley) drove which pulled the vehicle with it.

I choose to add the bus paramaters instead of the tram parameters, because I hate it when the blinkers didn't blink and the wheels didn't turn in road curves. Be aware that those trolleybuses will come out of car depots because of this.

Also they can drive on normal roads because of that, but for a real experience please use the trolleystreet in the link below (use version 1.525) : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2163667157

Zo mooi ! Ik ken deze bussen uit de tijd dat m'n vader NBM chauffeur was en bij de Berenkuil in Arnhem expres remde om een trolly te laten stoppen in het stroomloze stukje voor de rotonde (rond 1964)
