ZIL-111

This mod features one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made: The ZIL-111.

This car was built at Likhachev plant in Moscow (it was mainly assembled by hand) and entered serial production in 1958. Replacing the ZIS-110, it was the top Soviet automobile of its era.

Just like the Chaika, this vehicle was designed by Lev Yeremeev and its styling is based on 1950s Packard models.

ZIL limousines were used at diplomatic events, military parades and as transportation for high-ranking officials like ministers or politburo members.
General Secretary Nikita Khrushchev was usually driven in a ZIL-111 too.
Usually, these cars were not exported, though Fidel Castro did receive one as a gift in 1960.

In 1959, the ZIL-111A went into production, featuring air conditioning and a changed rear window. It was also available as a convertible with an electrically operated roof, called the ZIL-111V.

The design of the car soon was completely modernised and 1960s design features were added. This new version was called ZIL-111G and went into production in 1962, replacing the earlier models.

Overall, only about 100 vehicles were produced. The Chaika was build in much larger quantities, because it was cheaper to produce and needs less fuel, while the ZIL is larger and even more imposing.
