PiePower's Picts

Description
This is the 2nd version of my mod to add the Picts and expand on the Dark Age Celtic cultures/kingdoms. Please subscribe if you like the look of it :)

The workshop for my mod doesn't seem to be working so you should definately download the zipped file from mod db if you want to install my mod, it's simple and easy just extract the zip file directly into your mods folder:
PiePower's Picts V2 ModDB

History
Scotland as a unified nation of 'Alba' did not exist until around the 10th Century, before this most of the area had been inhabited by the Picts, who are thought to of likely being a culture directly descended from the original inhabitants of Britain. The Pictish language is extinct, but it has been speculated to of either been a Brythonic language like Welsh or possibly a pre-indo European, and in fact non Celtic language. However, Pictish culture had also adapted to the Celtic influx when the region was known as Caledonia and had become Celtic. The name 'Picts' comes from the Latin for 'Painted' as the Picts were infamous for charging naked into battle painted in woad (hence why their colour in this mod is woad blue). The Picts were Christianised during the early Dark Ages and adopted Celtic Christianity based around monasticism, Celtic mythology and the cult of saints. In the later Dark Ages the Scots (or Gaels), who had arrived as a tribe from Ireland and settled in the Western Isles of Scotland, began to become the dominant culture, the Irish Gaelic language replaced the British Pictish language and eventually, with a Gaellic speaking King in power the kingdoms were united under the Gaelic name of 'Alba'.

In the year 867 however the primary title of the King of the two seperate Kingdoms the Scots and the Picts, remained King of the Picts, the Mac Alpin dynasty was essentially the last Pictish dynasty although they were a Gaelic dynasty originally, the naming of this country as 'Scotland' in CK2 is historically inaccurate. Constantine I was certainly first and foremost known as the 'King of Picts' and was likely Pictish-speaking, not Scottish, he is often known as the 'Last King of the Picts', as his Kingdom of the Picts died with him when he lead an Army against Viking invaders. This is my mod to create and expand upon a Pictish Kingdom. Note that this mod is only really designed to work in the Old Gods beginning, as it deletes the Kingdom of Scotland and adjusts the in-game history to allow the Mac Alpins to control all of Alba. For their coat of arms I used the Pictish universal symbol of the Z-rod which was found throughout and uniquely to Pictish culture.

Features

Titles:
The Pictish Kingdom of Fortriu exists as the primary title of Constantine I.
The Scottish Kingdom of the Gaels exists as the secondary title of Constantine I.
The de jure Kingdom of Alba exists as a historical representation of the unification of the Picts and Scots as the 'Kingdom of Alba'.
The flags of nations such as Wales and Ireland have been changed to be more historically accurate (e.g. Wales is now represented by the flag of Saint David and Ireland uses the old Coat of Arms).
The Kingdom of Galicia is now present, under a Breton dynasty.
The Kingdom of the Combrogi - a united Arthurian Kingdom of Wales, Cumbria and Cornwall is now possible to form, represented by the red dragon.
The duchy of Brittany has been entirely replaced with the Kingdom of Brittany.
The addition of a de jure Celtic Empire, with either a Brythonic, Iberian or Celtic name based on the ruler's culture, replacing the Empire of Britannia but including the seven Celtic nations and cutting out England, which is moved into the Empire of Scandinavia.

Cultures:
Pictish - An ancient, possibly pre-Indo European culture (but Celticised) related to the Caledonians that existed north of Hadrian's wall for thousands of years.
Norn - A representation of the the Norse-Gaelic culture and language (known as Norn) that formed in the north of Alba as a result of mixing of the Viking settlers with the native inhabitants.
Mannish - The Gaelic culture of the Isle of Mann, under Norse occupation.
Galician - The, arguably Celtic, culture of what is now North-West Spain.

Religion:
Celtic Christianity - The addition of a Celtic Christian faith, based off the historical monastic movement in Dark Age Britain and Ireland, covering the historical areas where Celtic monasticism and the Cult of Saints was present, with a detailed in-game description and lead by the Abbot of Clonnard Abbey.
Norse Paganism - As already existed, but worth noting it includes the areas that have the new 'Norn' culture.
Raiding - To represent that the Dark Age Picts, Gaels and Irish often went raiding, I have made the Celtic Christians capable of raiding. Worth noting that unfortunately it was not possible (to the best of my knowledge) to make them capable of raiding other Christians.

Mercenaries:
3 new mercenary armies added; the Pictish Woad Warriors, the Irish Kerns, and the Scottish Schiltron.

Music/Events:
- New Celtic music pack with many tracks.
- New Pictish themed loading screens and event pictures.
- A hidden easter egg, somewhere in Africa ;).

Credits:
Modding titles, cultures, loading screens etc. - Me.
Ancient Linguistics help, which was greatly appreciated - Saxton (tobbinatorevitch)
The Music Pack - Almost all credit goes to Adrian Von Zeigler who composed most of the Celtic music I have added, he allows usage of his music if credit is given.

This version of my mod is the 2nd release I've done, and a full one, but I may make one or two more updates of it just to add more details, I'm thinking of adding new vassals, events and features for the Celtic Christianity including the ability to raid other Christians, I'm open to suggestions :)

Sorry guys.

I'm not going to be working on this anymore, as I don't have time to develop mods. Additionally, after studying this period of history for many years, I feel many of my representations of the Picts in this mod were ahistorical. If I ever return to developing a mod like this, I will try to make it more historically grounded.

I really appreciate all the enthusiasm I got for this mod, and the number of subscribers really surprised me! It's the only real mod I've ever made. It also demonstrates how interested people are in Pictish history.

Glad you guys enjoyed it while it lasted.

I'm sorry, since I started studying I haven't had the time to keep this mod up to date.
I hope to fix it one day, especially since from my studies there's actually a lot I could add :D
However, for now it doesn't work, my apologies about that.

I really wish this was updated, I've been looking for a mod that would allow my celts to go raiding.
