Pod Upgrades Materials: (A-N)
This is not an entirely exhaustive list of locations, only locations that are “easily” farmed or accessed. Always have Auto-Collect Items & Drop Rate Up Pug-In Chips installed.

For more possible locations, check out the Nier - Automata Fextralife page:
https://nierautomata.wiki.fextralife.com/Materials

Though, its accuracy is pretty variable… Feel free to leave better areas or locations for farming, though be sure to fact check yourself & only list it if it is actually worth while to farm there.

Total G: 52,500G

Complex Gadget: x6 (most annoying Pod Material to farm for)

Route C Sub Quest Rewards: Gathering Keepsakes (x2), Sorting Trouble 3 (x3)

City Ruins: From the Near Tower Access Point, make your way over to the waterfall close to the bridge leading to the Commercial Facility. Equip the Pod Scanner & follow the stream backwards into the City Ruins. Just before the ruined concrete overpass on our right, we can find a hidden Complex Gadget beside a rock in the water to our left. This does not respawn.

Forest Castle: There is a 1% chance that a Complex Gadget may spawn inside the baby king’s cradle across from the Royal Chamber Access Point. You will mostly get Silver Ore; I do not recommend farming for these here.

Battle Arena DLC: If you have the Battle Arena DLC & are 9S, there is a random chance you can receive a Complex Gadget as a reward for completing the Rank 3 Challenge in the Forest Zone Arena. This is the best way to farm these.

Post Game: You can use Chapter Select after beating the game & replay Chapter 2-01 & replay the Sub Quest – The Weapon Dealer’s Request to collect 4 Complex Gadgets. If you already have some in your inventory, you will only be able to collect up to 4 before the Sub Quest will update & the Gadgets will disappear.

Dye: x6

Amusement Park: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located for 675G

Eagle Eggs: x10

Harvest Points: Forest Zone (Random chance to be collected at Harvest Points scattered all around the Forest Zone. A little vague on the specifics, but just sprint around the Forest Zone looting the area; leave & return to keep farming).

Elaborate Gadget: x10

Route C Sub Quest Rewards: Reconnaissance Squad (x5), Sorting Trouble 2 (x5)

Forest Castle: There is a 5% chance that an Elaborate Gadget may spawn inside the baby king’s cradle across from the Royal Chamber Access Point. You will mostly get Silver Ore; I do not recommend farming for these here.

Battle Arena DLC: If you have the Battle Arena DLC & are 9S, there is a random chance you can receive an Elaborate Gadget as a reward for completing the Rank 3 Challenge in the Forest Zone Arena. This is the best way to farm these.

Filler Metal: x10

Route C – Abandoned Factory: Return to the lower level of the Abandoned Factory & make your way to the Factory: Furnace Access Point. From the Access Point, destroy all Machine corpses for possible Filler Metal drops, then head backwards through the Factory & there is a chance to loot 1 Filler Metal from a Harvest Point right behind a Multi-Leg Medium Model. Now, transport to the Factory: Hanger Access Point & loot the two Harvest Points in the tower room. Cycle between the two Access Points to farm it.

Alternatively, you can do entire runs of the lower Abandoned Factory going back & forth through the facility if that seems less mind numbing to you. Theoretically, any Machine corpse or Harvest Point here should drop Filler Metal.

Battle Arena DLC: If you have the Battle Arena DLC & are 9S, there is a random chance you can receive Filler Metal as a reward for completing the Rank 3 Challenge in the Forest Zone Arena.

Post Game: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located in the Amusement Park for 6750G. This is only available at the Shop AFTER Route C has been completed.

Giant Egg: x6

Route A Sub Quest Rewards: Treasure Hunt At the Castle

Harvest Points: Forest Zone (Random chance to be collected at Harvest Points scattered all around the Forest Zone. A little vague on the specifics, but just sprint around the Forest Zone looting the area; leave & return to keep farming).

Machine Oil: x6

Route C Sub Quest Rewards: Sorting Trouble 3

Route C – Abandoned Factory: Return to the lower level of the Abandoned Factory & make your way to the Factory: Furnace Access Point. From the Access Point, destroy all Machine corpses for possible Machine Oil drops, then head backwards through the Factory & there is a chance to loot 1 Machine Oil from a Harvest Point right behind a Multi-Leg Medium Model.

Theoretically, any Machine corpse or harvest point should drop Machine Oil.

Post Game: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located in the Amusement Park for 3375G. This is only available at the Shop AFTER Route C has been completed.

Mushroom: x20

Route C Sub Quest Rewards: Devola’s Request

Harvest Points: Forest Castle (Can be farmed from the Forest Castle: Front Access Point. Sprint to all Harvest Points found outside the castle doors, Quick Save, then reload your game. Rinse & repeat), Forest Zone (Random chance to be collected at Harvest Points scattered all around the Forest Zone. A little vague on the specifics, but just sprint around the Forest Zone looting the area; leave & return to keep farming).

Natural Rubber: x20

Amusement Park: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located for 1350G. This only becomes available during Route C after it has been turned into a “Zombie”.
Pod Upgrade Materials: (O-Z)
Plant Seed: x10

Amusement Park: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located for 67G.

Powerup Part L: x3

Route C – Amusement Park: While there are two locations we can find 1 Powerup Part, they are not until the very end of the game in The Tower or after the Sub Quest – Emil’s Determination. We can farm Powerup Part Ls from the Golden Rabbit in the Amusement Park. Go to the Amusement Park square & begin attacking the Golden Rabbit statue in its center.

You need to deal a massive amount of damage to the statue before it will activate. It is worth setting up a specific Plug-In Chip loadout just for this with as many Weapon/Ranged/Critical Attack Ups as you can equip. Once the Rabbit awakens, return to your favored loadout & take him down. Hacking is the most effective way to take the Wabbit down. Kill the Wabbit, & you will receive a Powerup Part L & a huge amount of XP.

You cannot farm the Rabbit for Powerup Part L if you already have one in your Inventory. Your Pods may also need to be Level 3, but I have no proof of that. Upgrade a Pod with it, then return to the Rabbit. Rinse & repeat until you have got all 3.

Powerup Part M: x3

Route B/C – Forest Zone: From the Forest: Center Access Point, follow the first river down until you reach the cliff edge above the valley. Head to the right of the falls & follow the ledges down towards where the Canyon Machine is. We can find the Powerup Part inside a Chest halfway down the ledges.

Route C – Flooded City: In the Soul Box Recovery Unit before the fourth elevator inside a Hackable Chest.

Route C – Copied City: Return to the Copied City & make your way over to where we fought Adam. From the Adam Boss fight, turn around & head back the way you came straight down the path. We can find the Powerup Part inside a Hackable Chest at the end.

Powerup Part S: x3

Route A/B Sub Quest Rewards: Anemone's Past, Robo Dojo--Red Belt

Route A – City Ruins: Dropped by defeating the unique Courageous Brother & its two Gold Goliath Bipeds bodyguards.

Pure Water: x20

Harvest Points: Flooded City/Sewers (Random chance to be collected at Harvest Points scattered all around the Flooded City & Sewers. The best strategy is to run back forth through the Sewers all the way to the end of the Flooded City & back going to all the Harvest Points. Entering the City Ruins through the Sewers should reset the Flooded City. Alternatively, if you have the Battle Arena DLC, you can use the elevator to go down to the Underground Coliseum to reset both areas).

Simple Gadget: x20

Route A/B Sub Quests: Anemone’s Past (x5), Terminal Repairs (x3)

Forest Castle: There is a 25% chance that a Simple Gadget may spawn inside the baby king’s cradle across from the Royal Chamber Access Point. You will mostly get Silver Ore here…

Tanning Agent: x10

Route C – Amusement Park: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located for 675G. This only becomes available during Route C after it has been turned into a “Zombie”.

Tech Manual: x10

Route B Sub Quest Rewards: Data Analysis Freak

Harvest Point: Desert Zone (Random chance to be collected at Harvest Points scattered all around the Desert Zone. A little vague on the specifics, but just sprint around the Desert Zone or the Housing Complex looting the area; leave & return to keep farming).

Post Game: Infinitely sold by the Shopkeeper Machine near where the Lunar Tear is located in the Amusement Park for 1350G. This is only available at the Shop AFTER Route C has been completed.

Thick Dictionary: x6

Harvest Points: Desert Zone (Random chance to be collected at Harvest Points scattered all around the Desert Zone. A little vague on the specifics, but just sprint around the Desert Zone or the Housing Complex looting the area; leave & return to keep farming.

Weapon Upgrade Materials: (A-L)
This is not an entirely exhaustive list of locations, only locations that are “easily” farmed or accessed. Always have Auto-Collect Items & Drop Rate Up Pug-In Chips installed.

The boss room where we fight Adam in both the Desert Zone & the Copied City has infinitely respawning Machines in it & is a great way to farm a large chunk of the parts we need. If it can be dropped by an enemy, you can most likely farm it there. Rarer Materials have a higher chance of dropping depending on which Route you are on; Route C being the best.

For more possible locations, check out the Nier – Automata Fextralife page:
https://nierautomata.wiki.fextralife.com/Materials

Though, its accuracy is pretty variable… Feel free to leave better areas or locations for farming, though be sure to fact check yourself & only list it if it is actually worth while to farm there.

Hey JakTenba, Yeah the "grind" for this game is absolutely brutal & not the greatest. It isn't so bad in Nier - Replicant, but especially for all the different Gadgets in Automata it becomes a real chore. Even though you only need 6 Complex Gadgets, it can take you hours to farm even one.

I was in the same boat as you, & just didn't really take the farming seriously in my run assuming "it couldn't be that bad" & ended up having to farm 2 Complex Gadgets! Oof. :machine_lifeform:

Thanks for the guide. I really messed up and nearly soft-locked myself because of those complex gadgets. I don't even entirely understand how. I know I did both the Route C sub-quests, and I know I had the laser pod waiting for them. I guess I just didn't realize I had got enough of them before beating Route C?

Then on my second playthrough, I rushed through the weapon dealer's quest on Route A and stupidly just gave him 4 of the gadgets I had got from quest rewards. Though maybe i had no choice since i had 4+ on me when I started the quest? Then on Route B I somehow had 2 gadgets (should have only had 1, but i guess I got lucky somewhere, maybe from the arena), I started the weapon dealer's quest, collected 1 of the 4 that spawned, upgraded my pod, saved, and then realized I couldn't complete the quest. Luckily I hadn't gathered the hidden gadget.

Now I'm going to have to farm the arena.

No idea how I never registered this comment... but 7 months later, I finally saw your comment again Pitro, & fixed the Pearl header. Thank you for bringing that up. :Emil:

Holy I did have them in there, but I messed up on my Bold/Highlighting & it looked like an extension of Pristine Cables. With how much spacing/coding I do to organize the guides, I sometimes miss things like that. Super ugly looking; thanks a lot for pointing this out! It should be way more obvious now. :nier_commander:

Hey Rem, If are referring to the Type-40 Lance (though this applies to any Weapon you might miss), fortunately you will unlock Chapter Select after completing Route C. So you won't be able to collect it until you are in Post Game at the very end, but you do not have to delete your save & restart. Thank goodness.

if im missing one lance that is route A blocked will i have to do the whole game again just to get it?
