Description
Magic School Boat

Why drive this boat:
Hilarious “Magic” rolling and recovery;
high level of equipment for doing missions;
durable to mishaps;
decorated cabin for those who role play;
multiplayer friendly for crew of two

Concept:

A cruising rescue boat.

A rescue boat that could stay on a remote station patrolling and responding multiple days or weeks. Able to resolve many situations. Improved crew habitability for watch-on/watch-off manpower (2 person multiplayer ready).

Also integrates my learning Stormworks. This has been building myself or installing various technologies. This included relearning micocircuitry developed a multi functional engine control unit. That ECU makes operating this craft so much more reliable.

Dockyard: Fits in the starter dock.

Cost: ~ $76K with full electronics

Weight dry: ~5,100 kg

Fuel: 5,532 L

Top speed: ~70 knots
(at full fuel load Gear Alpha on, Gear Beta off)

Overdrive with both gear on:
Full throttle: ~150 nm at 36 knots
Paced: ~ 240nm at 21 knots
This should be arctic capable.

Length overall: 14m (56 blocks)
Beam: 4 m (16 blocks) counting bumpers
Draft: ~1.75 m at stern with full fuel load
Bow is notched so can nudge in closer or onto the shore

>>

The basic location zones are:
= fire fighting bow with beaching and impacts planned for
= bridge with sheltered passenger space and medical care
= stern deck for handling
= lower bow compartment is crew habitation, comfort, clothing and equipment
= lower aft compartment is engineering crawlspace
= belly rear is the fuel tanks (no access)
= Stormlink capacity is 12 if using external seats or 6 on internal only

>>

Systems and features:

= Advanced safety-rich engine control unit: ECU 2 M2R 1 TZ
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380681962
= Boat Stabilizer from Gyro mk3 Reverse Gear
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2417321834
= Damage control board with alerts for fire or flood by compartment and low power controlled by:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2380909625
= Superb dynamic roll recovery coupled with auto-restart engines
= Hose turret in bow for ship to ship fire fighting
= High speed dash to priority emergencies or to hospital
= Long range cruise for patrol or low priority transit
= Water divert to hose connection for handheld hose fire fighting below decks
= Search light aims with hose turret (from pilot’s seat)
= Bridge with excellent view and numerous controls
= Distress beacon locator monitors
= Radar monitor
= Radio touch screen
= Weather information
(Part of the vision is that while cruising on station the craft would provide weather information to warn ships away from danger)
= Automatic bilge pump
= Passenger capacity: 18 as 7 in bridge (counting hospital bed); 6 on rear deck; 5 below if beds and toilet used.
= Medical suite with medical bed, 2 x defibs, multiple medical kits
= Engine room crawl-way allows interior repair of engines, generators and gear boxes
= Decorated habitation cabin (details below)
= Electrical regions can be isolated
= Pre-isolated backup battery
= Trickle charge from solar panels
= Zero clutch mode for by-engines recharging without moving
= Stores of handheld gear and outfits
= Empty gear spaces for sorting or charging swaps
= Medium winch and anchor points for towing
= Elevated look out position with gear, including flare gun to mark sightings
= Hull uses phased hydroplaning to quickly develop speed
= Shallow draft for beach landings for disembarking shore parties or delivery of survivors
= Excellent in-motion roll recovery
= Impact resisting bow (after 45 knot impact can be underwater welded in time)
= Good AI self-boarding onto aft deck (bow isn’t AI friendly)
= Double horizontal air intakes to drain water after after submersion
= Tsunami test “flying” colors
= Rear deck for small cargo
= Keel indicator lights bow and stern for divers

>>

Multiplayer ready:
Has two colored beds (green and blue) each with color matching arctic clothing, radio, compass, binoculars and flashlight.

>>

Cabin decorations:

= Waist fridge
= Kettle
= Sink
= Cooking elements
= Toilet with flush to sea (normal) or to waste tank (required in some ports)
= Sleeping time artwork
= Numerous drawers
= Radio speaker relay

>>

Downsides:
= Low fuel will lead to a list when not moving that can be hard to get in and out. Ballasting came to to 20% fuel remaining list of ~15 degrees. List deliberately favoring to starboard to keep main hatch high. If it lists to port use the front hatch which is off center to starboard.
= Can’t get out of static inversion, that is flipped upside down and not moving. Most boats can’t.
= If bridge is heavily flooded this can lead to static inversion, so close those doors! Vertically circling the bridge are multiple fluid ports connected to the bilge in an attempt to clear water from the bridge. However if you are fully inverted the engines will stop from lack of air and you will be in that dreaded static inversion.
= Unable to haul a vanilla full size container.
Those are 11 x 11 x 29 which is too long to fit its center of gravity on the aft deck. Likely to tilt and/or fall.
= Can’t go on land
Though it is good in beaches and shallow to send a shore party in the right direction. Recommend leaving the nav lights on to guide the return. Remember to look back to the boat to note landmarks and a handheld compass bearing.

Explaining the magic:
Well I can explain the physics behind it but steam limits the size of text in the description comments. So the simple term MAGIC remains suitable.
