When i first saw this mod, I was pretty hyped about it. I got into the demos, and the narrative was epic. The pace and freedom was lacking, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt gameplay wise, cuz it was demos. Now that i got into the actual game, it's compelling for 1 reason... the story. I don't know if this redeems it for me, but i still play it. I was kinda frustrated how you have to play so rigidly, cuz like many others emphasize, you are pretty much reading first and playing second. I was hoping there would be a way to play more freeform, but, given the mod's extensive reliance on narrative, i don't think this will happen. The mod drew me in cuz of the narrative, but the expectation of how you normally play HOI4 is a double edged sword IMO. i can't say the people that made the mod did bad, cuz it does look amazing. it's just my thoughts on the matter.

i like the mod but theres too much reading i get that its after the whole ww2 thing and youre trying to rebuild your country and that would be fine if one event wasnt a 2000 word essay

TNO is more of a visual novel than a grand strat game anyway. if you don't like that that's fine, or if you don't like the writing in it that's also a valid criticism of TNO, but i won't lie;


i honestly feel like the great majority of people who don't like TNO either don't like all the reading or, more often don't like TNO calling out their fascist or far right political beliefs and criticizing them. TNO's writing is incredibly amazing and gets you invested not only in characters and their storylines, but it also serves as a criticism of fascism, imperialism, war, nationalism, and jingoism, and a good amount of hoi4 players subscribe to those beliefs. and said people tend to be really butthurt about that. lol.
