Introduction
ISS gore system is great, although the dismemberment doesn't happen as often as i and other people would want to. Thankfully i have found a way to change that.

Before we start:
You might want to use Notepad++, its free and will help you see if you're messing with the config files the right way or nah
The Commands
The gore commands i have found

r.DismembermentDamageMultiplier

A multiplier for weapons and explosion damage, setting these to higher values will make limbs more easily dismembered.

Value
Results
0
No dismemberment, might as well turn it off.
0.1-0.97
Slightly less likely dismemberment compared to default value, BUT direct hits will not insta gib so the chance of getting dismembered ragdolls after fire support or rpg shots will increase.
1
Normal dismemberment.
1.5-2
No noticeable changes although any value pass this point will cause any type of explosions (direct hits, nades nearby etc) to insta gib.
5
Rifles will be able to take off limbs in 2-4 shoots, Pistols will dismember in 2-5 shoots.
10
Rifles will take off any limb with 2 shoots, Pistols will dismember in 1-4 bullets.
15
Any weapon (except melee) will be able to dismember in 1-3 shoots.
20+
1 hit gib

r.DismembermentDamageForceMultiplier

The amount of physical "push" that will be applied on the ragdoll, the higher the value, the more "push" will be applyed on the ragdoll from the direction it got hit before dying.

Value
Results
0
No push even with .50 calls, nothing from explosions. I recommend this one for a more "realistic" experience
1
Almost unoticeable push.
5
Ragdolls will respond to bullets and fall back more frequently, ragdolls will fly from explosions.
10
mildly hard pushes even by the smaller callibers, ragdolls will catapult in the air from explosions
50+
to the moon we go

Negative values cause the opposite effect which is honestly very funny

r.DismembermentBloodEffectRangeMax

Changes the ammount of blood stains/overlay on ragdolls after explosions

Value
Results
0
No Overlay whatsoever
Default(0.5-1)
Default value for comparison sake
1
Very Gory overlay, already way more than what vanilla has.
50-100+
Ragdolls are soaked in blood
.

r.DismembermentBurnEffectRangeMax

Dictates the burnt overlay, scales very quickly between 0 not burnt at all and 1 already completely charred

Value
Results
0.95
Normal'ish burnt level
1
Charred Characters.
10'ish-100+
Ragdolls will still be burning, and will keep burning indefinitely.

r.DismembermentImpactDamageScale

"Multiplier" for the ammount of physical damage the ragdoll will recieve, things such as getting thrown against a wall or falling will cause limbs to dismember depending on the value. it seems to be very sensitive given any value change results in the ragdoll dismembering imediately by touching the floor.

r.DismembermentExplosionGibMaximum

Amount of limbs that can be torn of from explosives, of course when they dont instantly gib from explosions.

r.DismembermentImpactImpulseTreshold

Dictates the minimun damage a ragdoll has to recieve to dismember from impacts, also very sensitive causing the same effects from r.DismembermentImpactDamageScale, though simply setting it to a very high value can completely disable impact gore.

I would recommend messing around with these commands ingame first, you can simply change its value and kill somebody to see what the command does
There are some more that you can access via the console ingame wich i dont think are important (mainly cuz i honestly did not bother with testing what they did) they all start with "r.Dismemberment" in case you want to see them for yourself.
The config file
After deciding which configurations seem fit for you, its time to put them in your config folder

Fistly, find the directory of your iss config files, it should be at
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Insurgency\Saved\Config\WindowsClient

Then look for the file named "Engine.ini" and open it

Look for a category named "[SystemSettings]", if you dont find it, simply write it down
it should look like this:

Then simply add your commands with the values you want like "command=value"
Bonus: setting amount of ragdolls
Ragdolls on Insurgency: Sandstorm are client side, and thats a good thing!!

It allows for customization that wont really change other people's experience. But one thing most players are not aware of is that you can actually customize the amount of ragdolls beyond the game's three option and you can make it as high as your computer can handle!

Oh! i should also mention! That despite it being a clientside setting, bullets shot by you still get affected by bodies and will lose energy if they go through one!
Sources : A dev said that on one of their Q&As a couple years ago
Now hoow does a clientside setting affect something that should probably be 100% serverside? I dont know! but oh well.

UPDATE: 2025!

A while ago, the devs have disabled the ragdoll count setting and set it for only 3 ragdolls at a time.

So back in the day you would go for the GameUserSettings.ini and change this setting:
Nowadays that setting has been removed so that is no longer possible.

Now i wont go into a rant explaining how boring that is since im sure theres a reason for it (i think its stupid regardless) so thankfully!

We can still change the ragdoll ammount!

How to do it

  1. Yet again go to your config folder and open "Engine.ini"

  2. This time the setting you will want to put in is " r.RagdollMaximum="

  3. After that, simply set it to a number of your liking, i personally like to set it to a multiple of the ammount of players in a standard PVP match, so 24,48,72 or more.
outroduction
There we go!

Sadly i dont know what most commands do, but even then it didnt show any diference with values so it hopefully wont be a big missout, if anyone knows what they do, just tell me and ill update this guide.

yeah it takes alot of tweaking to get these settings just right, sadly it seems that the devs have disabled command prompts ingame(the cfg file still work just fine which is good!), so thats gonna make it a bit harder to tweak
