Description
Due to the sudden explosion in demand for both Moulder monsters and Packmasters to accompany them, the lords of Hellpit have seen fit to start offering the services of entire classes of Packmaster fledglings. While still only partially skilled in beast handling, Packmaster Apprentices offer a unique niche to the skaven roster.

The unit these would be most comparable to would be the WOC Aspiring Champions. Apprentice Packmasters are NOT elite fighters meant to hold the line alone or cut through hordes of chaff units. They are best used to support groups of infantry and Moulder monsters.

While not as strong in combat as an actual Packmaster, a group of apprentices maintain a (somewhat) sturdy position to hold a skaven pack together. Armed with Things-Catchers, they have a decent anti-large bonus. Equipped with knowledge on how to handle ornery beasts, let alone lowly slaves and Clanrats, Apprentice Packmasters come with the "encourage" attribute, providing leadership to all nearby allied units, a skill invaluable in any Skaven army. Additionally, they come with whips, which they are all too eager to use to passively spur any nearby Moulder monsters into a frenzy, buffing several of their combat stats, albeit at the risk of rampaging.

They are recruitable at the monster building chain at T2, allowing for quick access to extra support on the frontline. They can be mutated in Throt's Flesh Laboratory in the infantry section. They are upgraded with the technology 'best of the best', and lord skills 'pack leader' and 'mutagenic elixers'.

- Original Release: Apprentice Packmasters are available in both campaign and custom battles. Flesh Laboratory compatible, added effects to lord red-line skills and tech tree.

2/7/21
- Technology effect from 'Best of the Best' no longer affects Apprentice Packmasters.
- Added a recruit rank effect to the technology 'Practiced Goaders'.

7/19/21
- Updated for The Silence & The Fury
- Updated card art to help differentiate Apprentice Packmasters from Clanrat Spears

Compatibility
This mod should be compatible with anything, though text discrepancies may occur with other mods that affect the same skills/technologies as this one (effects should still properly activate).

Am I crazy or blind? I seem to not find them in the roster. Maybe I'll check again tomorrow when I'm not as sleepy or something.

Nice mod, good stopgap early-game unit. I do agree it could use a new icon, though.

i really like this mod my only thought is to change the unit icon because i keep missing it because it is the same as the clanrats with spears icon.

Vanilla? It's been updated, and continues to be so. It stifled with some scripting issues at the moment, but remains in a stable build.
