SC to USD conversion
By Your Lord and Savior
I was bored, so I decided to figure out what the conversion rate of the space engineers form of currency(SC, which I assume stands for "Space Credits") to U.S. dollars is. Feel free to correct any and all mistakes.

Finding the weight/price of iron (In-game)
I started by finding the price of one iron plate, which at the terminal I was at, was 1,131SC. A single iron plate is the exclusive ingredient in one small grid light armor block. According to Fandom (https://spaceengineers.fandom.com/wiki/Light_Armor_Block) One small light armor block is 20 kg.
Therefore, 20 kg of iron costs 1,131SC (Again, this is exclusive to the terminal I was at. Prices may differ.)
Finding the price of iron (In real life)
This part was a bit easier, it just took some searching. I went to "Iron-Foundry.com" (http://www.iron-foundry.com/cast-iron-prices-pound-kilogram-ton.html) and chose the ductile cast iron, as it seems to be closer to whatever iron SE uses. The price for ductile cast iron actually depended on the amount, so I averaged it to $1.42/kg.
Final pricing calculations and answer
Since we want to know the price of 20 kg of iron, and we know that iron is $1.42/kg, we just need to multiply $1.42 by 20, which is $28.4 for 20 kg of iron. If 20 kg costs $28.40 in real life, and 1,131SC in SE, that means the conversion rate for USD to SC is about 1:40.

I hope you enjoyed learning this useless bit of information.

It might have something to do with reputation? Or are all traders the same faction?

By the way, some NPC's do have different prices, I checked and I could get 5 credits off from one dealer.

1 SC = 2 1/2 cheesburger square cents. EZ

however the SE dollar doesnt have cents so you gotta divide by 100 because the dollar comes in fractions and credits dont, meaning the credit isnt worth 40 dollars but rather 0.4
i think? does space engineers have fraction money?
dont know, dont think much about this
seems like pretty good inflation considering the game takes place about 500 years from now according to the tip screen wikipedia thingy

I have not, but I assume they do. I also assume it's not by very much.

Had to check on that, been building a lot of light armor blocks recently, got the small grid and the large grid confused. Even though it does take about the same amount of time to wield them up. And I was wrong about the small grid heavy armor, it takes 5 steel plates and 2 metal grids.

BTW have you checked to see if different locations/stores will sell at different prices (I'm talking the NPC stores)?

@Phatboy45 The small grid light armor block does not, in fact, take more than 1 steel plate to build.

But small grid armor blocks takes more than just one iron plate to construct, correct?🤔 You're talking at least five, right (just for the light armor version, I know the heavy armor version takes six plus one metal grid).

Actually let me check on that...

so you average small space engineers spaceship bought from a shop would only be around 500 dollars in real life rather than 5,000 dollars in game
