Vindholk MPV 195 - High Speed Multi Purpose Vessel

Description
The Vindholk Multi Purpose Vessel 195, is a 19.5 meters long high speed utility boat which can serve as a general utility, SAR, diving support, patrol or fire fighting vehicle. It is an all round perfect boat for any kind of missions at sea with it’s large assortment of equipment. The MPV 195 has a top speed of 77 knots (40m/s), and range of 160km on just 12k liters of diesel.

It’s designed with a focus on realistic operation with all the maneuvering possibilities and techniques as a real high speed water jet boat, and will also require the same type of skills and practice to master.

Start-up:

Go the bridge of the vessel and sit down in the driver seat.

To the left of the screens, flip the switch called “Screens ON”

On the center console, flip the two switches to turn on the engines. Use the clutch buttons to engage the water jets.

The small screen on the front panel show the throttle of the two engines. The throttle is sticky, so always keep an eye on the throttle values. This is why the Vindholk is recommended to use in 1st person.

[W/S] controls the throttle of the port side engines. [Up/Down] controls the throttle of the starboard side engines. If you press the “Sync Engines Throttle” button, you will then control both engines with [W/S].

It is important that you use the trim to balance the vessel according to your speed and the conditions. In high waves it’s recommended that you take the trim down to -1, and in perfect conditions with no wind or waves to 1.

Running with the 7 as throttle level is the most economic and will give you the best range.

The computers

The main screens can display mostly whatever they want by pressing the “NEXT” button in the top left corner.

Two of the top panel screens displays stats to each of the two engines, like RPS, range, temperature, and fuel level.

The last screen on the top panel shows any current alarms. You can press the “Mute” button on the screen to mute the alarm sound.

The screen on the top left of the Helm seat is for the navigation lights. You can press any of the lights on the screen to turn them on/off or change color.

Autopilots
There are two types of autopilots on board. One is a normal “hold current heading” autopilot. And the other is a destination autopilot where you type in a waypoint on the keypad in front of the navigator.

To toggle the heading hold, you press [2]. A blue indicator light on the front console tells you when the heading hold is on. If you start steering with [A/D] when the heading hold is on, this will automatically turn it off.

The destination autopilot can be toggled on with a button on the front console after you have entered the coordinates. A green light will tell when it is on. You can also enable the autopilot to stop at the destination, if not, the boat will continue to drive.

Equipment

The water cannon on the bow can be pitched up and down with the controls on the center console on the bridge. You need to connect a hose between the fire hose connection to the left of the entrance door, and the fluid hose anchor on the port front deck.

You will find lot of equipment in the storage units on the rear deck, and a lot of other basic equipment on the bridge. Any other equipment and spare equipment is placed on the lower deck, mostly in the storage room.

On the rear deck is a crane. The controls for the crane is located at a console to the right of the entrance door together with controls for the towing winch. In the front locker of the storage unit on the port side of the rear deck, you will find 2 adapters with mag all on them. You can use them with the crane or towing winch by using a cable on the winch and the adapter.

Power and Fuel

To refuel the vessel, you use the fluid hose anchor on the port side of the rear deck.

Downstairs, above the seating area on the wall is a group of switches controlling the power network. You can also switch to the reserve battery if needed. The generators will recharge which ever battery you are using at the moment.

I see that the last response from the author was last year.

Is he off the game now?

Sure, you eventually learn to compensate for the behaviour of the boat by constantly making small, skittish taps on the button, but it doesn't correct for the fact that the underlying behaviour is simply wrong.
I don't know what causes a 1 second press of the button to translate into a 6-second, 160-degree turn (I assume it is a compromise to achieve the slow speed behaviour), but if possible, it should be corrected.

I would do it myself if I knew how to, butI only bought this game 2 days ago.

And while this boat has come to be by far my favourite, I simply cannot get over the way it steers at high speeds.

Oh and it needs nightmode for the screens. They are too bright at night.

Thanks and happy days.

However, while I utterly love the slow speed behaviour of this boat, BY FAR the most overwhelming reason why the steering feels "wrong" in this boat is the way it behaves at high speeds.
At full speed and in calm seas, a 1 second application of steering input will result in a sustained 5-6 second turn that results in the boat going nearly 180-degrees (150-to-165 is more accurate) the other way around.
And it is utterly baffling.

So all too often while cruising at high speed a small input to make a turn devolves into a back-and-forth oscillation that only gets worse the more you try to fight it.
It is extremely counter-intuitive.

I've read all the comments here, regarding the steering. And having worked in and around boats of different types a long time ago, I agree with and appreciate that jet boats have a certain steering delay.

But with all due respect, I think the author is missing the point of these complaints here.

But before I get into that, one thing should be corrected. Jet boats are notorious for having awful steering response at slow speeds, yes. But at high speed/high power, the opposite is true. They are renowned for having a quick response and a tight turn radius. So the slight delay at full speed feels out of place.

This ship basically got me back to stormworks, I love it, but wonder, how do I switch on navigation lights? Thank you

Really nice creation. Love the functionality and realism in Career mode. Questions.. When in synchronized engine mode, at throttle of 1 or 2 and trying to creep the boat, I find it drifting left, also, the boat will yaw very quickly and violently if I maintain pressure on the steer key, almost as if it is hydroplaning on the top of the water without yaw stability. Are both of these characteristics by design? Thanks
