Quantum Cooling Redux

Description
This is a reupload / continuation / revival of the existing mod called Quantum Cooling.
I've made several quality of life changes to the mod, full details are in the changelog.

Full rights to the mod ownership are kept by the original author. They can request to continue from, use new files from or remove this mod, if they so wish. In the meanwhile, the mod will be maintained to the best of my abilities. You can find my other mods / retextures here.

The original Quantum Cooling mod was made by Aion Algos.
Want medieval style cooling as well? Check out Geothermal Coolers!

RESCRIPTED ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION BELOW

Tired of the heat?! Go tell Thermodynamics to screw off! Quantum Cooling™

Now With Heaters! Quantum Cooling technology allows for exhaustless cooling. It can be used to reach extremely low temperatures but is relatively expensive and consumes a lot of power.

Quantum Cooling™ Technology
Using quantum mechanics; you can discover how to reduce entropy without displacing it.
Perfect for cooling the inside of mountian bases without the need for exhaust venting!

Research and Construction
After you've researched "Air Conditioning", QC adds the "Quantum Prototype" which will unlock the weak Prototype Quantum Cooler. It may struggle to keep negative temperatures depending on the room size, climate, and weather. From there you can research the next tier; "Quantum Cooling" and "Quantum Heating", which will unlock both the Small and Large versions of the Quantum Cooler and Heater, which can be found in the Temperature construction tab.

After unlocking both, you can then research the last tier; "Quantum Generators" to unlock powerful entropy, temperature and power generating devices. One is specialized in forcing heat in, and the other forcing heat out of the room they are placed in, depending on your needs.

Heater Comparison
eps = Energy Per Second (Rimworld's heat mechanic...)
The lower the Watts per EPS, the more efficient the heater is.
  • Default Rimworld Heater
Efficiency: 21 eps at 175 watts for 8.3w per eps.
Cost: 50 Steel and 1 component.

  • Small Quantum Heater
Efficiency: 75 eps at 500 watts for 6.7w per eps.
Cost: 25 Plasteel, 200 Silver, 50 Gold, and 5 Components.

  • Large Quantum Heater
Efficiency: 400 eps at 2000 watts for 5w per eps.
Cost: 75 Plasteel, 500 Silver, 50 Gold, and 10 Components.

  • Quantum Heating Generator (New Structure!)
Power: Provides both +2500 watts and 250 eps, requires no fuel.
Cost: 125 Plasteel, 775 Silver, 100 Gold, 10 Components and 5 Adv. Components

Maximum temperature you can get with these heaters seems to be 120°C
Quantum Heating Generator is the exception, as it can force temps up to 233°C

Cooler Comparison
eps = Energy Per Second (Rimworld's heat mechanic...)
The lower the Watts per EPS, the more efficient the cooler is.
  • Default Rimworld Cooler
Efficiency: -21 eps at 200 watts for 9.5w per eps.
Cost: 90 Steel and 3 components.

  • Prototype Quantum Cooler
Efficiency: -24 eps at 300 watts for 12.5w per eps.
Cost: 75 Steel, 100 Silver, and 5 components.

  • Small Quantum Cooler
Efficiency: -50 eps at 500 watts for 10w per eps.
Cost: 25 Plasteel, 200 Silver, 50 Gold, and 5 Components.

  • Large Quantum Cooler
Efficiency: -250 eps at 2000 watts for 8w per eps
Cost: 75 Plasteel, 500 Silver, 50 Gold, and 10 Components.

  • Quantum Cooling Generator (New Structure!)
Power: Provides both +2500 watts and -150 eps, requires no fuel.
Cost: 125 Plasteel, 775 Silver, 100 Gold, 10 Components and 5 Adv. Components

Quantum Coolers are rather pricey and research intensive, but get more efficient according to their price - though only the large quantum cooler will be more energy efficient than the vanilla one. However, their main advantages are that they save on space, since you don't need to worry about exhaust, and can easily reach temperatures close to absolute zero in well insulated areas.

COMPATIBILITY
You're good to go! QC isn't known to conflict with anything. Feel free to give ideas and suggestions on how to further enhance, balance or expand upon the original mod, if you so desire. I will try to implement new stuff and patches whenever appropriate.

Does this work on 1.5, also, why isn't there a continued version of this yet?

Can confirm, no issues in 1.4

@ProfileName so far, the mod works perfectly fine for 1.4

Is this mod actually good for 1.4? Or?
Evenstaria Oct 30, 2022 @ 6:56am
me too

from my end, the mod still works for 1.4

I have to ask, how have people been receiving this mod?
(and yes, I'm waiting for 1.4, it shouldn't be an issue though)

1.4?

Still around? Would love to see those patches you made for SOS2 and Proxy Heat added in.
Maybe even an all-around "Climate Control" machine added in, to keep interiors at a stable temp without having to build the other two machines.
