Description
BLUFIN

Introducing the BLUFIN SACLOS Radio-Wire Guided APN Missile, a culmination of several days of work with a ton of help from the Stormworks Radar & Guidance discord team, especially SinisterMinster and MSTR_Unchained. REDFIN is made possible because of their help.

There are no cheats, no transceiver on the target, it's only radar, and using true APN guidance to home in on the target. Designed for short-range surface-to-air and air-to-air engagements. Includes a test-bed launch gantry.

REDFIN is Fire-and-Forget, REDFIN-S is Fire-and-Forget in a Slim Design, BLUEFIN is Operator-Steered, SPIKE is Laser/GPS-Guided

Features:
  • 2km+ Range
  • SACLOS Radio-Guided Operator Steering
  • True APN Guidance
  • Configurable Flight Control Unit
  • Target Estimation & Filtering
  • Lead Compensation
  • Radio Data Transmit & Receive
  • Radar Lock Light & Buzzer

Microcontroller Configuration:
Configuration
Description
Target Velocity Smoothing
Applies an averaging technique over this many ticks to smooth out velocity chop
Target XYZ Smoothing
Applies an averaging technique over this many ticks to smooth out target location estimation chop
Target Lead Compensation
Applies additional lead to the target's estimated location based on its current velocity
N Sensitivity
How sensitive the missile reacts to the target's motion in order to intercept
Filter Out Targets Below (Meters)
Applies a filter that ignores targets below this altitude in meters
SACLOS Pitch/Yaw Sensitivity
How sensitive the missile reacts to the operators aiming input
SACLOS Aim Distance
The distance that the missile is aiming for, beyond the target. (Mainly for calculation)

Additional Notes:
-Functional range of 2km. Target must be visible/active for radar.
-Rapid target movements can evade missile. BLUFIN likes targets that don't make rapid changes in direction or velocity.
-BLUFIN will dumb-cruise straight until it finds a target, so it is possible to extend its range beyond 2km, but not by much in its current config.

How to Use:
A basic gantry/launch vehicle has been included for your reference. Aim towards target, and fire. BLUFIN will steer based on the operators input, until it acquires a target, and enters its APN Terminal Guidance Mode. For best results, wait until the target is on a steady course, and configure the missile's FCU microcontroller drop-down options to suit your target and scenario.

Known Issues:
Radar in Stormworks is janky and has some major limitations. BLUFIN is far from perfect because of that, and offered as-is. Inspired players are welcome to open up the hood and apply new methods to improve BLUFIN's target acquisition and missile guidance. I'd love to see what you come up with!

Please hit me up on the Stormworks Official Discord @Kep#1817.

Feel free to use in your creations and modify, I just ask that you credit my design by adding a link to it on your workshop post. Cheers :)

wait so the user guides the missile?

There's nothing in the code preventing it from being used on any radar target, but it might hit the ground before the target depending on how it chooses to steer to the target. You'd have to test it.

Could bluefin or redfin be possibly used against watercraft or cars? I'm currently trying to come up with a mini game to play with some friends but im needing a aircraft to ship device, without it being a dummy torpedo.

yeah ill try that with one booster rocket at the top. thanks man

My approach would be to program in a one-turn after firing that steers the missile from vertical towards the laser and once a laser is acquired it switches to a laser-guided mode, before finally switching to a radar guided terminal guidance mode.

hey man, so im still trying to create a working vertical missle. now i got a radar guided laser pointer which could help it guide, thing is the missle in the current state wont follow the laser when launched vertically, is there any setting i could tweak to make it still follow its target after firing vertically? im happy to share it with you after
