China, 1570. China is under the reign of the Longqing Emperor, of the Ming Dynasty. He inherited a country in disarray after years of mismanagement and corruption. He resided in the Forbidden city, which was the seat of many emperors under the Ming Dynasty. Constructed from 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 72 ha (over 180 acres). It is also under the Ming Dynasty that the Great Wall of China was rebuilt, fortified, and expanded. Around this period, China was under heavy attack from the Mongols, so maintaining the Great Wall was essential. Most of what we now have left of the Great Wall, we owe to the Ming dynasty.

The country was already famous for its very intricate bureaucracy, but this also led to a lot of corruption. Even though the penalties for corruption were very high, the highest Officials of the Forbidden City would pretend to uphold the ban on corruption, by accepting gifts of petitioners, and returning one of seemingly lower value.

Gùgōng uses this extraordinary custom as its basis. Players take on the role of powerful Chinese families trying to gain influence and power by exchanging gifts with Officials. The gift cards you offer as a player have to be of a higher value than the one you receive, forcing you to make strategic choices regarding which actions you want to take each turn. You will travel around China, sail down the Grand Canal, purchase precious jade, help construct the Great Wall, secure advantages through decrees, influence the game through intrigue, and ultimately, receive an audience with the emperor. If only 1 player succeeds in doing so, he wins. If several players succeed, the player with the most VPs among those players wins the game.

I have leveraged CykaMon's excellent mod and added a bunch of useful scripting to ease game play!

Scripting Features include:
Game Keys (under Options)
* Ping Player who's turn it is - Does what it says!

Setup:
* selects start player,
* distributes starting cards to seated players,
* fills all travel token locations,
* fills all card action locations,
* sets correct Intrigue token order,
* supports adding in Bonus Travel TIles,
* supports adding in "Expert" action cards

Action Card Play:
* Just drop the card on to the card you are taking/swapping. That card will automatically be moved to your player board, and the card you dropped will be highlighted in your color, a light will shine on that area, and a message will be broadcast to all players informing what gifts were swapped, by what player, at which location.

Phases:
* Start Player: This will move the First Player Token to the player that had the Next Start Player Medal, assign them as first in the turn order, and return the Medal to the Intrigue track.

* Refill Travel: This will place new Travel tokens on any travel spot that is empty. If out of tokens, it will automatically reload from the Discard area.

* Check Destiny: This will move all of the gathered gift cards into the player hands, sort them in ascending order, and report on everyone's number of Destiny Die matches.

* Travel: When the Travel token is placed on to a Travel tile, that tile will be moved to near the top of the player's board.

Updates and Corrections applied to the combined Gugon+Panjun mod. I am not maintaining this mod as the other is a superset.

Lord B. - I added the Automa deck to the Gugong+Panjun mod. I have NOT done any scripting around it so manual setup will be required.

Any chance of the Solo Automa cards? CykaMon didn't add them in the original mod because they "didn't have scans"

We played it with 4 players two weeks ago or so and everything worked pretty well. Thanks for the awesome mod. :)

Papas: So does it have a scripting fail or is it having an issue loading the graphics? I have not touched this mod but continue to update the Gugong+Panjun mod. I have seen some parts position themselves oddly (like the cards show up face down for some people), but have not seen any critical crash errors. All of the computers of friends that have played have been Windows based though so far, though that ideally should not make a difference.

In both of the scripted versions, I experience crashes, right after the game fully loaded. I'm on a mac and it happened , since now, only with your mods, the unscripted gugong and the mombasa scripted.

Panjun mod is up! This should be pretty darn close to fully functional (but I have not had a full test game yet.)

Awesome. I'll be looking out for it thanks

I started scanning in Panjun components... so I might actually add them in! This will take a while though. Not certain how much scripting I will add, though I would like to add setup scripting and gift/card swapping. I will probably put this up in a different mod as it will be a significant reworking.

I am uncertain about the expansion at this time. I do own the new Deluxe Boxed edition so have Panjun et. al. should I find the desire to scan in the components.
