How to: Run Borderlands 2 again after latest steam client update for macOS! (Info: But no controller will work).
By Goll[Y]
EDIT: New Steam client update "19.10.2020" fixed it!

(First, sorry for my bad english..)
Many macOS player here have a problem after latest Steam-client update [08.10.2020] for macOS.
Borderlands 2 launcher starts up but after click play = Borderlands 2 crashes again.
The solution for this problem was posted on reddit, first. THX a lot for that!!
https://www.reddit.com/r/Borderlands2/comments/j7kmba/mac_crashing_on_startup/

But many macOS players have problems "to do this", so here is a small and quick-guide with screenshots.
INFO: You will be able to play Borderlands 2 as usually but - if you playing with a controller - the controller doesn't work!

Edit: The fix also works for Civilization V (!!!) although there the app ID is 8930. Thanks to Max Power for that info!

Step 1: Start your steam client first
Step 2: Go to your Borderlands 2.app
Example:

Macintosh HD > User > Library > Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > Borderlands 2 > Borderlands 2.app

Step 3: Right click on "Borderlands 2.app"
3.1
"show packages content"

3.2
Go to: Contents > MacOS

Step 4: Create the "steam_appid.txt" document with TextEdit.app
4.1
Go to your applications folder > TextEddit.app and open TextEdit.app

4.2
Create an empty new document with TextEdit.app

4.3
Type in 49520

4.4
Save the document to your Desktop (name and suffix [for example .rtf] doesn't matter..)

4.5
Go to the saved document: 1 left mouse click on the document, then press enter and type in / rename it to: steam_appid.txt

Step 5: Copy the created steam_appid.txt document to..
Go back to step 3.2 to Borderlands 2.app "show package content".

Macintosh HD > User > Library > Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > Borderlands 2.app > Contents > MacOS

It should looks like this!

Step 6: Open up Borderlands 2 directly
Go back to the Borderlands 2.app..

..and start Borderlands 2 directly AND PLAY! ;)

IMPORTANT:
You always have to start Borderlands 2 directly [Step 6] after this little workaround - and don't forget to start steam client first!

See you in game [again ;]!

Thanks Goll[Y]!

One more way to get it worked:
Go to Steam –> Preferences –> Account –> Beta participation: Steam Beta Update.
Restart Steam and you are golden.
Thanks to Sarmishra@

About file creation option described above: It works but you have to:
- create file with name "steam_appid.txt" not "steam_appit.txt" (there is typo somewhere)
- create file in such a way: create file in TextPad and save -> rename to "steam_appid.txt" -> open it again -> erase all contents -> write 49520 -> save. RTF fil creation didn't work for me - I suppose its formatting issue.

Cya :)

@ Stalin1926:
Yes, no further BL2 updates from Version 1.8.5 for macOS.
But it seems there's a new steam client update out there that fix the issue - sadly, my own steam client doesn't give me an update [macOS 10.14.6, Germany] yet.

@Max Magnus:
:) Glad to hear mate!

I have the same problem. I'll give it a try. But it is disappointing to hear that "Unfortunately according to Aspyr, they are done supporting Mac and Linux BL2. "

(PS4) Controller problem:
Try to autoupdate the drivers for the PS4 controller through steam client - controller should works again.
