The Importance of Engineer and Scout
By Kalmia
This guide will explain just how important the Dwarven classes Scout and Engineer are. They're the two classes who shine the most when working together.

Scout and Engineer have items at their disposal that make them the greatest at collecting those high up materials without really risking much in the way of "worker safety".

As a Scout you have the zip-zooming grapple hook, and as Engineer you have the pancake shooting platform gun!

This is somewhat in-depth on what my knowledge is of the spelunking duo known as the Engineer and Scout.

The Engineer's Pancake Palooza

The Trusty Pancake Launcher: The most important thing to help your fellow scout is the Platform Gun. Never forget this thing as it is your lifeline for Scouts and them reaching those precious minerals, beer ingredients, or even addicting Red Sugar high up!

Extra Info: If no Scout is around is of course make yourself platforms obviously leading up to those minerals. Don't be afraid to spend some to make your way up to anything you deem useful.
You can also use the Platform Gun to plug up certain holes. This is particularly useful on Salvage Operation missions as any resupply-pod, or Fuel Cell pod hole from them digging through can be closed shut with two plats at most.

How to Build: The usual way to build your Platform Gun at first if you're new is 2 - 1 - 1 as this allows you to get used to the ammo you have. However, if you're far more technical and know how to direct the bugs due to having Bug Repellent slotted then you go with 2 - 1 - 3. Bug Repellent is by far the most fun as you can quite literally direct the bugs with your platforms or deter them from a certain spot altogether!

Example Below

The Scout's Zip - Zoomin' Adventure Pamphlet

How to be the Zoomiest of Them All: You want quick, energy drink fueled speed? The Grappling Hook is your friend! It is the standard tool of any freshly sky blue dipped Scout. This will allow you to avoid, fly around, or smugly taunt your fellow employees as you're already in the next cave!

This handy dandy tool will allow you to work with your Engineer who is beautifully platforming those high up minerals just for you, or perhaps he's giving you a ledge to snipe and shoot from above so you can soften up the big crawlies for the rest of your team.

Extra Info: Usually starting off your Grappling Hook is the one thing that sets you apart from the rest. You are the quickest, most agile Dwarven class in the game. Your Grappling Hook is also one of your greatest "leashes" so to speak.

Starting off you will likely have no fall damage reduction, any gear mods slotted in, or perks. So it is in your best interest to also learn to slow down as if you don't and you perhaps mess up a hook to an incredibly high mineral, beer ingredient, or even some Red Sugar you will surely down yourself. Even with fall damage reduction items you still lose a sizable chunk of health.

How To Build: As you build up, or have built up to you will likely want to run 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 in this sense you can get a feel for the Grappling Hook without having to really be afraid of fall damage.

However, once you feel confident enough go for 2 - 1 - 2 - 2 as this will allow you to zip around at your leisure with incredibly fast movement and light up any possible area for your Engineer/team ahead.
What's That Noise?
Beep Beep: So that little sound you keep hearing when someone flips out that mysterious device? That's the Laser Pointer the one thing every Dwarf has and should use when spotting things of interest. This is particularly useful for the Scout and Engineer duo.

Ping any/all items of interest for any class as this can go for any class as at the end of the day we're all capable of reaching minerals, beer ingredients, or Red Sugar high up if we put in enough effort.

Don't Be a Pinging Pest: Don't repeatedly ping items as all that does is cause problems for your team. Plus the likelihood of you getting the boot is relatively high if you drive the Host over the edge as there are far more important things to do.

Don't harass the Scout, or Engineer. If you ping something and they immediately don't go get it or platform it don't get angry with them. At the end of the day there is a person behind that screen, respect how they are and what they might be doing.

If they don't get it, then you get it yourself. Will it take more time? Possibly it will, but if you want the item in question then try to get it yourself. If not, then there is always the next mission.

Short and Sweet -TLDR-
For those who don't have time to read.

Engineer and Scout are the two most unique classes in a sense that they work exceptionally better together. As if using both Engineer and Scout you can do absolutely anything.

Any platform you place can be followed up with a Scout grappling up onto the platform. You're the duo that makes the mission go smoother as you collect everything that the other classes cannot easily reach.

Just because Scout can't kill as much as the Engineer/Gunner/Driller, doesn't mean squat. Scout is by far the most important for material collection alongside Engineer as Scout is that missing component to collecting high materials.
Final Notes
This is just something I wanted to do as I notice plenty of Green Beards who play Scout, or Engineer who don't quite realize the potential their class has in store for them.

My most played class is Engineer, and my knowledge of Scout is relatively limited but I've played both extensively in my time and I thought I could give my own insight as to how one could improve.

The guide here was not a "This is the best way to do it" or any garbage like that. It is how I believed one could function as an Engineer, or Scout and showing the true usefulness of the unique relationship Engineer and Scout can have when working together to collect literally everything.

Any comments, or thoughts are deeply appreciated. If this helped in any shape or form I'm glad. I hope to see you all out on Hoxxes IV someday.

epc mining got kinda killed so I use the substa with internal explosives for single target dmg

EPC mining is pretty good but it gets expensive pretty quick.

Which to sorta repeat myself here. This is for people who are new to the game. They are not going to have beers unlocked out of the gate, nor really have beer ingredients/materials at the ready for the buff beers.

alright, then I'd at least mention Rocky Mountain, since you can easily carve into a wall as a foothold on any map with it. without it you can do it on sand. once you get experienced you can do it on other maps if the situation is good.
I would consider this critical Scout knowledge that not everyone really picks up on.

I could mention shotgun jumping, but this is also aimed towards newer users as they don't really have access to overclocks straight away.

mention shotgun jumping. you dont' need platforms as a scout if you know how to use it

I prefer to think the platform gun as a 'Crumpet Dispenser'.

Yeah I'm on crafting mastery level 18 now, scout is almost 2 star gold but has less overclocks than my gunner and engie who I only have at bronze, always seems to be the way in these games.

I agree though, I love his high single target DPS, especially when you have a run and gun set up on him, feels like I'm playing oldschool doom sometimes.

Don't worry, you'll get those overclocks and they're damn good too. I have all of them, and just having the variety to choose from makes Scout really good. Though I was done with all overclocks, and cosmetics. That is till this update happened so I'm back to doing my DDs/EDDs.

Just gotta do your weeklies, DDs/EDDs, and Machine Events.

Scout still fills the role of high damage to singular targets, and I kinda like it that way. Gives Scout his own unique style that differs from the other classes. Albeit he's "weak" in terms of crowd control but that's not really the point without the right set up. He's a way for players to handle situations differently.
