Rod of Discord

Description
This mod adds the Rod of Discord, an impossibly hard to acquire teleportation item from Terraria that allows you to teleport to your mouse at the cost of some health.

I tried to make the item act as similarly to the Terraria equivalent as I could, things kinda fall apart when it comes to animation and sound, but otherwise this item works well.
I did have to add some limitations/alterations though to somewhat balance the item, main ones being:

>limited range: You won't actually notice this limitation unless if you play on 1x zoom.

>tile protection: You can't teleport into tile protected areas, I have an addon that adds a variant that doesn't have this.

>auto aim: My RoD has a 1 block auto aim to make teleporting in tight spaces easier, Terraria's RoD doesn't normally do that.

Also, just as a warning, don't teleport outside your (vanilla) ship.
Based on the mods you have installed, you'll either fall to your death, or be teleported to the top of the planet you are currently orbiting (probably an FU thing but I haven't tested it)

You can find RoD in Treasured trophies, he trades it for a bunch of expensive endgame items.

itemID: antr_rod

Addons:
[RoD] OP Version
[RoD] Use energy instead of health
[RoD] Rod of Harmony
[RoD] Old Recipes
[RoD] OP Recipe

If necessary, you could make it a secondary mod, like the mod that switches the RoD's health damage for energy usage

Even if you go too high, you can just teleport back down to the air.

Why is it a bad idea to fly in Starbound, as you can already do that in Terraria via the RoH? In Terraria, the highest you can go via that method is the top of the map, and in starbound, you can enter an asteroid field and become weightless if you go too high from any planet (and end up choking if you don't have a breathing EPP or it's upgrades on your back)

You are right, though, at least the Rod of Harmony doesn't affect velocity when used. I have stated problems about the terminal velocity in each game (if there was a way to measure speed in starbound, either via mod or vanilla item, it would at least let us know if there is a terminal velocity)
Material Defender Sep 11, 2024 @ 11:16am
To be accurate, Terraria has a lower terminal velocity than Starbound. Even if it preserves vertical velocity, that terminal velocity (the max speed the player can fall) still allows the player to effectively fly with nothing but the Rod of Harmony (and to a lesser effect the Rod of Discord, but at the cost of health either until you stop or the player dies due to the effect)

I don't know if Starbound has a terminal velocity, but if it does, it's far higher than Terraria. One thing to do is instead of preserving the vertical speed, set it to the terminal speed of Terraria.

Maybe just limit the speed change to the OP versions?

It's an easy change but I don't think it's a good idea as it will make it possible to straight up fly.

Also I just did some tests in Terraria and it does preserve both your vertical and horizontal velocity between teleports, Starbound just has floatier physics...

All that would be needed is to reset the falling velocity to 0 when it's used, not sure if terraria also reset the sideways velocity.

I ask mainly cause if you fall off the edge (of say the outpost) you will end up falling to your death

you also can't use it to essentialy fly as you will keep on accelerating regardless of use (the original RoD and RoH in terraria cancels out the falling momentum when used, allowing a weird flight effect)
Material Defender Sep 11, 2024 @ 8:15am
Is it possible to make the player's downward speed reset when using the rod, for this, the OP version, as well as both RoH versions?Because if you try to use any of em while already falling, the player's downward speed just keeps increasing

I forgot if you already answered (if it was already asked, it wasn't in the comments of this specific mod page)

The warp to top of planet in the desc is a FU thing IIRC
