Luna Park Houston & The Giant Skyrocket Coaster

Description
From 1924 to 1934 Luna Park was the place to be in Houston Texas.

The centerpiece of the park was the Giant Skyrocket Coaster. It was designed by Audley Ingersoll and prefabricated at Lake Contrary Amusement Park in Saint Joseph Missouri before being sent down to Texas.

The Giant Skyrocket was reportedly 6000 feet long and just 110 feet tall. The ride is a L shaped out and back coaster with a twister section added to the bottom of the L. This recreation shows that claim was doubtful. Still with a length of +5000 feet this was one of the longest coasters in the world if not the longest during the rides 10 year history.

It sat dormant until 1941 when legendary coaster designer John Miller assisted in moving a heavily modified version of the ride to Houston's Playland Park to create an out and back coaster. Miller passed away during that project.

Coaster: Sky Rocket
The Giant Sky Rocket was the centerpiece of Houston's Luna Park from June 28, 1924 until the park closed in 1932. It was designed by Audrey Ingersoll and fabricates in St. Joseph Missouri before being transplanted to Houston.

The ride had a hundred to a hundred and ten foot tall lift hill and supposadly was 6000 feet in length. The six thousand feet in length might be park public relation elaboration as this design has just over five thoudsnd feet of track before the train starts to lookse steam.

The Park had a Traver Curcle Swing a curcus, a balroom, and am old wild west show with performignative Americans.

After going out of business many of the element to Luna Park moved to the new parks location. The legendary John Miller helped with the relocation of the Giant Sky Rocker while significantly shortening the ridrs layout by removing the twister back of this out and back, Sadly John Miller; the Thomas Edison of Amusement parks paded awat while working on the removal ad reconstruction of the Giant SkY Rocket.
