Report a translation problem
Yeah, I called it a "relocalization", but the core of it is a retranslation. I used The Cutting Room Floor's notes on comparing the prototype EN, final EN, and original Japanese scripts, and from there I rewrote the texts aiming for what you'd read in a novel vs. a 1993 videogame translation.
I hope that helps!
I advise trying these patches and playing up to Molcum or Krup (15 min or so?) to see what style you prefer. Contact with any questions!
Positive and negative comments have helped shape these over the last 2 years into what they are today, and I really appreciate any engagement you're willing to provide.
My project page, PSIV.GamesDoneLegit.com , has links to the many English-translated PS resources I used for this, as well as a podcast with other SEGA and PS fan translators.
If you're a PS fan, also see others' improvement/retranslation patches for PSI, II, III, IV, and the PS remakes for Playstation 2 on Romhacking.net .
You can also join us at the PS Cave discord, where we have a dedicated community of PS fans.
You can also email me for a custom version of either of these patches, if you have different preferences for character and technique names, or which proper nouns from the different English localizations you prefer. Thanks for checking it out!
