Description
Over the next few days, with the help of creators Badi_Dea and SvenBerlin, I will be releasing a collection of assets that will allow you to recreate parts of the memorial to The Berlin Wall at Bernauer Straße -- "Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer." We've created the parts to be modular so that you can use them in a variety of ways. The star of the show is, of course, The Wall itself, which we present here for the first time as a network. Badi_Dea created the base model and set up the network flags, and I provided the textures and final adjustments based on my own photos. This download (the first of 5 or 6), includes one wall network and two props:

1. The Berlin Wall 1 (plain front, plain back) as a network
2. The Berlin Wall Prop (single section, non-conforming)
3. The Berlin Wall Prop No Top (single section without the circular top piece)

One of my favorite things to do in Berlin is ride the "Mauerweg" bike path, which follows the entire 160km former border between the West and the East. The "denkmal" (literally translated "think about for a while", or "memorial") at Bernauer Straße is always a highlight of the ride, and a must-see for visitors to the city. A 64-meter preserved strip of the wall is framed by two modern steel bookends, containing an original guard tower and searchlight. Beyond this section, the memorial stretches for 6 city blocks. The vacant spaces of "no-man's land" rise on a gentle slope to the neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg. The locations of demolished apartment buildings, cross-streets, escape tunnels, and the tragic story of the Church of Reconciliation are marked by steel pieces in the grass and gravel. Dozens of outdoor placards tell the story of the "Berlinermauer" 1961-1989, in photos, maps, and audio clips.

Niemand hat die Absicht eine Mauer zu errichten.

hey ami? can you make it as a fence or retaining wall to help make making dividing borders between my poor slums and rich mansions easier to hide? police tanks are in return!

I was only once in Berlin because we had to visit the embassy of the United States for a new passport of my girlfriends mother. And this was last year. I saw many german cities villages and towns in my life I bought a Trabant 601 in 2013 and I traveled around the country but Berlin was allways missing.

fantastic stories :tga_trophy: My first visit to Berlin was in the summer of 1990 which was a very interesting time because it was after the "wall came down" in November of 1989 but before Germany reunified in October of 1990. We arrived at Zoo then walked into the east via a still existing but open checkpoint. The wall was covered in graffiti and in many locations people were still going at it with hammers to take home their own souvenirs. But more interestingly, the air was still incredibly charged, as Germany was trying to figure out what a kind of country it wanted to be after unification.

Most of the former border between east and west Germany was only made of fences (called "Streckmetall") The famous wall was only in Berlin because of the narrow space within a city. In 1989-1990 when the demolition of the border has begun, my grandfather was like: "oh nooo that nice solid metalwork! You can't just scrap this, this is still in good condition!". So he removed some of the fence by himself and bend it into a cylindrical shape and put this structure into his garden. So now we have a trashbin for garden waste, made out of some important piece of european history. And funny thing: it has still no rust. XD

Oh almost forgot, some parts of the wall have made it over to the U.S. There's a segment at the headquarters of the CIA in Langley Virginia, there's another section in St. Louis and I think there are some segments in New York at some clubs (I think).

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was living in the UK in Nov. of 1989 and I remember watching the tv as the wall came down. I even have a small piece of it! Off an on I have thought about trying to make Berlin in Cities Skylines like it was in the months leading up to it being dismantled, or maybe creating it right after it went up. (My achillies heal in this is my lack of patience... >.>)

On a slightly different note, this is the second wall isn't it? Again thank you so very much!
