2021 DRT Formula Street World Tour Y01

After the Coronavirus debacle of 2020, Formula Street’s inaugural season was moved to 2021. This car was originally designed for 2020, but wasn’t able to be built until 2021. Meanwhile, the team was busy building ventilators. When that was over, they got back to the car.

The car competes in the World Tour series, which has a 50% fuel flow rate limit above every National series. Compared to the National series, the World Tour series has a larger calendar (16 vs <=12). Cars run with tyres that don’t rubber in or produce marbles, allowing the entire track to have a similar amount of grip. Downforce isn’t that strong, but it doesn’t produce dirty air that can reduce downforce for following cars.

The Y01 weighs 1898lbs, or 862kg, making it a tad heavier than the 450_1, and the second lightest car to date. The team, as they are a privateer organisation, don’t have the equipment required to manufacture engines, but they have been supplied an engine from H Motors, but using a custom gearbox. However, they have gone for a rather extreme aero package; the car does not have much lateral stability, and a centre of downforce towards the front of the car.

Handling the car is pretty similar to the 450_1: you can spin out if you are not careful, but handling is relatively good.

Using cockpit view will definitely be fun with all the bodywork in the way ;). You also don’t suffer under braking.
