DayZ: finding your first gun (AIRFIELD GUIDE)

Use this guide to navigate around airfields and find out what to do when you find yourself in one.

Navigating (THE ONE AND ONLY CHAPTER)

Finding your first weapon on DayZ;

Usually you'll spawn along the coast of Chernarus, with the odd exception of spawning in Novy Sobor. Spawning in Novy Sobor is a bit of a hassle, but nevertheless, you can always move. Spawning at Komaravo or Balota, finding a gun is easy. Just to the east of the spawn in Balota, you'll find a military camp. The tents which have two entrances are the most valuable here, as loot does not spawn in any of the other tents. (If it does, it's rare.) - after checking the camp, I recommend moving in to the actual airfield. Checking the Barracks which can be found near the entrance to the airfield are key. I have found multiple M4A1's just lying on the beds, and backpacks generally spawn at the side of the beds, too. Securing the barracks for any loot is key. Next you move towards the two storey building (no idea what it's actually called) which is located near the hangars. You can check the firestation if you want, however the most you'll find is a pistol or a chest holster. - the two storey building must be looted entirely. Check all the side rooms as Mosin Nagant's and the occasional M4A1 spawn on the beds, underneath them, or on the benches. Fireaxe's, pipe wrenches, and many other melee weapons also spawn. Looting the hangars can be good if no one has been here recently. I found two dual M4 magazines just laying around, and one time, found a dead guy with stacks of food; it just depends on your luck.

The Air Traffic Control tower sometimes has loot in, however it's not worth dying for if hostiles are near it. You'll probably, at best, find magazines or a bag. Plenty of people check the airfields so I'd stay well out of view. - Airfields, also, are not a good source of food or water. Maybe the odd soda can or rotten kiwi, but that's about it as far as I'm concerned. Most players with good loot die from starvation or thirst (in my case, plenty of times), so keeping food and water on you is essential when you venture out after securing loot from an airfield.

This guide is reasonably short, as it's my first one and it hits specific points instead of a vague description. Thank you.

Yeah, Zulu; they've greatly reduced the numbers of M4's spawning there too so this guide is a little outdated. Not sure if I should make another one or if it's not really worth it.

Mosins do not spawn in airfields, SKS do.

it depends on where you spawn really, just try and decipher signs or use maps available online which will show you the english name of the city

ahh i just hopped on the standalone version yesterday i was playing the mod and decided to finally get the alpha already got 3 saline iv combos, sks, magnum (way too many bullets) antibiotics blood (im o+ ) :( fire axe luv that thing and bunch of medical supplys in general

Yeah, I made this when the Mosins and M4's were the only primary weapons. :)
