Blockland Controls Explained (And More)
Von Whirlwind8429
Many of the problems/questions that come up are due to players not knowing the controls. So, I'm going to try to explain what all the default controls are. Some of the controls even need their own tutorial, while others I just sprinkled in some Blockland knowledge.

Basics
All controls are dictated by keybinds. Here are the basic keyboard controls:

Attribution[forum.blockland.us]

For the mouse:
Left click to fire / activate
Right click to fly / exit vehicle

With that, you know enough to jump into the game.
Intermediate
Let's say you want to change your controls or want to learn more controls. To do this, you need to go to the menu, then options, then the controls tab.

To change a keybind, double-click on the control you want to change.

Customize to suit your needs.
Advanced
Alright, now I shall detail every single default control in the game.
Movement:

  • Forward/Backward; Strafe Left/Right - Movement in all directions.
  • Jump - Launch yourself off the ground.
  • Crouch - Decrease your blockhead height from 5 bricks to 2 bricks.
  • Walk - Slows your movement for precision control.
  • Jet - Activates your jet boots to fly. Best used in conjuction with Jump.

View:

  • Turn Left/Right; Look Up/Down - These don't really need keybinds, since you look with the mouse, but if you want to spin in a circle for fun, you can bind turn left & right.
  • Toggle Zoom - Hold to zoom in on a target for a headshot. Scroll wheel changes the scope of the zoom.** Best used in 1st person.
  • Free Look - This allows you to aim your camera without changing the direction of your player. Ex: Walking down a path, but turning your head to see if you're being followed.
  • Switch 1st/3rd - Switch from 1st person to 3rd person. 1st person is used for precision aiming, while 3rd is good for knowing whats going on around you.
  • Drop Camera at Player - This usually an Admin command. A camera is dropped at your player and you will be able to move the camera around the world without a body. Also known as fly mode.
  • Drop Player at Camera - This ends fly mode by teleporting the body you left behind to the current position of your camera.

Action:

  • Fire Weapon/Tool - Makes use of the item you are holding, or activates doors and events.
  • Suicide - Kills you. Use with caution. Useful if you are stuck somewhere.
  • Next/Prev Vehicle Seat - Switch seat in vehicles.

Communication:

  • Global Chat - Opens chat dialogue to chat with everyone.
  • Team Chat - Chat only with your team in a minigame.
  • Chat Hud PageUp/Down - Scrolls up or down the chat that has been said while you have been playing.

Gui:

  • Toggle Cursor - Turns your cursor on (and looking around off) to click links and such.
  • Open Admin Window - Opens the Admin Menu if you are admin. Otherwise it'll ask for a password.
  • Open Options Window - Opens the Options menu.
  • Show Player List - Shows people and admins on the server, minigame scores, their build trust with you, and bl_id if you have it enabled (Advanced Options).
  • Toggle NetGraph - Shows your network information like latency.
  • Toggle Player Names / Crosshair - Turns your crosshair and names above players off (people hit this by accident a lot).

Tools / Inventory

  • Use Bricks - Opens your brick inventory to the slot last used. Scroll wheel to select bricks.**
  • Use Tools - Shows the tools you have equipped. Scroll wheel to select items.**
  • Use Spray Can - Equips the spray can to paint bricks, as well as the color selection. Press again to change columns and scroll wheel to select color.**
  • Use Light - Turns on your light. Good for dark places. Also used to reload weapons.
  • Drop Tool - Drops the item you're holding.
  • Use 1-10th Slot - Jumps to the specified brick inventory slot.
  • **Inventory Up/Down/Left/Right - These control the selector for most of the displays. They can be used instead of a scroll wheel.

Building:

  • Open Brick Selector - Opens the selection of bricks currently on the server.
    • Left clicking a brick in the selector will select the brick. Clicking again will add that brick to your cart. Clicking a spot in your inventory will add the brick to that spot.
    • Left clicking a brick in your cart will select the brick. Clicking again will remove the brick. Clicking a different spot in your cart will swap/move the brick.
    • Tab will cycle through the categories (even ones you can't see).
    • Right click will make you use the brick immediately without putting it in your inventory.
  • Plant Brick - Attempt to place the brick in the world. Error messages will appear appropriately.
  • Undo Brick - This not only undoes bricks that you have planted, but also undoes paints and prints.
  • Cancel Brick - Removes the ghost brick. Please bind this.
  • Shift Brick Away/Towards/Left/Right - Shifts the ghost brick in the specified direction based on your view.
  • Shift Brick Up/Down; Up/Down 1/3 - Shifts ghost bricks up and down. If you have never played with legos, a Plate is 1/3 the height of a regular brick. So one regular shift is the same as 3 1/3 shifts. (duh)
  • Rotate Brick CW/CCW - Rotates your ghost brick clockwise or counter-clockwise.
  • Toggle Super Shift - Toggle Super Shift on and off.
    • (Bleh.) Ok, super shift is a faster way to build. Let's say you need to place a bunch of 64x baseplates. Obviously you dont want to be pressing Shift Brick 64 times. Super shift will move it by its length (or height if you use up/down). So instead of 64 presses, you use 1. Does not work with up/down 1/3.
  • Super Shift Brick Away/Towards/Left/Right/Up/Down - Shift the ghost brick in the specified direction by its dimensions.
  • Toggle Build Macro Recording - Toggles Build Macro Recording on and off.
    • (Double Bleh) Ok, basicly this records your build movements. You turn it on to start recording. You move the brick left, you move it forward, you rotate the brick, you place the brick, you end recording. Does not record undo brick, so get it right the first time. Use with Playback Build Macro.
  • Playback Build Macro - Plays back build movements recorded with Toggle Build Macro Recording.

Recording:

  • Take Hud Screenshot - Takes a picture that includes HUDs (e.g. chat, brick inventory, player list).
  • Take Screenshot - Take a picture of the game with no HUDs.
  • Take DOF Screenshot - Uhhh, It takes a picture... where some things are in focus, and others aren't. http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=77967.0

Emotes:

  • Sit - Makes your player sit, but you still have the collision of a 5 brick player. Crouching raises your hands up and decreases it to 2 bricks. (There is a glitch if you move in a direction and hit the sit at the same time, your player will play the move animation whether you are moving or not.)
  • Love - Show some love by spawning little hearts.
  • Hate - Show some hate by making smoke come out of your head.
  • Confusion - Show you have no idea wtf is going on by making question marks appear.
  • Alarm - Alert other players with an exclamation mark AND a sound.
(All the emotes can be used by typing / before each command in chat. The /hug emote does not have a keybind, but it is used best with Love.)

**The scroll wheel can be replaced with Inventory Up/Down/Left/Right (See the Tools section.)
Phew. Finished. I'm tired. I hope the read was worth it and that you learned something.

If I got something wrong please tell me.

/hug & /love,
