Castle Von Rauken is a grim, old Keep on the north-east of Ostland, three days of march eastward from Wolfenburg. Its strategic importance is enormous: erected on a island in the middle of a wide tributary of the Talabec River, it guards the great old road from Wolfenburg to the Western Oblast of Kislev in one of its most-essential river-crossings. Right on the external frontier of the Empire, and never too distant from the plundering of the Norscan warbands that roam the Kislevite lands, the Castle has endured countless sieges large and minor. Yet the Castle's lords have long been more interested in extracting taxes and tolls from the traders that venture north, towards Erengrad and the Western Oblast, rather than care for the expensive restoring of the fortress's fortification.

Recently, the Elector-Count of Ostland, Von Raukov, invested a considerable sum to restore the fortress's crumbling walls. The outer walls have been adapted to host firing areas for Von Raukov's beloved Osltand Cannon Batteries; the old walls have been reinforced in many points. At enormous expenses, the central keep is almost ready, although funds had terminated before the eastern sectors could be restored. Luckily, the Fortress won't have to endure another siege before Von Raukov will be back with deeper pockets...
