Introduction.
Hello all!
So as usual I do a few personal edits to most of my games, and as I was playing around with the uv maps I thought it would be interesting to see if I could color Altina's Tights.

Well it didn't look half bad so I figured I would share it with anyone that wants it.

3/31/2021 Big Update!

Ok so first thing I should mention here is I had to throw out all my previous work on these textures due to an error in how I was rendering them. (except Emma Without Tights *may redo that one later)
So if you are an EXSISTING USER of my textures you will have to download them again from the links below.

In having to redo them I have also improved them. As well as adding a few new ones, with potentially more on the way.

Sorry it has taken me this long to complete this guide but, I hope everyone who uses it enjoys the work I have done fixing it up.

What you need.
First thing is to download & install Special K Global Injector. (SKIM)

Here is a Guide for that
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=933337066

Once you have done that or are already a user, please continue reading as there are some specific settings to apply to CSIII.

Make sure you have launched the game with the injector at least once to make sure all folders\files are created.

Download Instructions
Download the files you want and unzip them into the following folder.
(if the path does not exist create it.)

Ex.
C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III\SK_Res\inject\textures\ed8_3_PC.exe

Make sure to run SKIM(Special K) and start the injector before playing.

Alternatively

If you don't want to bother running SKIM every time you start playing. You can create a custom wrapper for the specific game. This is covered in the above guide for Special K but I'll highlight it briefly here.

Ursprünglich geschrieben von Aemony:
  1. Ensure that SKIM is running and that global injection has been started.

  2. Launch the game you want to convert to a local wrapper.

  3. While in-game, open the control panel of Special K (Ctrl + Shift + Backspace).

  4. Open the File menu and click on Install wrapper DLL for this game:

  5. What this does is automatically create the appropriate [graphicsAPI].dll file in the folder of the game executable as well as a SpecialK.central file that tells the local wrapper to use the game profile in the Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\[executable].exe folder.

  6. Restart the game to use the new local wrapper instead.

The directory for injected textures will also change so be sure to move the files to this location.

Ex.
C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\SK_Res\inject\textures\ed8_3_PC.exe

Other Special K configuration & troubleshooting.

In the following folder is the configuration file for instructions Special K is using to render the game and inject textures.

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III\dxgi.ini

I am going to add a few things here that I have set to run the game smoothly and potentially assist anyone who may be having a few issues launching or displaying things properly. Have a look down this file and set it to your system specifications.

With your text editor of choice (notepad is just fine) right click and open dxgi.ini
use CTRL+F to find specific lines. Also remember to save and make sure CSIII is closed when editing this file.

Under the bracket [Window.System] are some settings to tell the game how to render the window.
Example I had noticed that the screen was cut off around the boarder, so to fix this I changed these values...

"Center=true"

"OverrideRes=1920x1080"

And that fixed the weird crop that was happening to me. So if you have specific resolutions or want to force say "Borderless=true" You can do that from here.

Another thing that happened was I had noticed I couldn't open Steam overlay or use screenshots.

Under [Steam.System] set the command "PreLoadSteamOverlay=true"

If Textures are not injecting and you have the above folders set you may need to check the line under [Textures.D3D11] and set "Inject=true"

For those of you who wish to pull your own textures for editing make sure to set "AllowUnsafeRefCounting=true" under the [Textures.Cache] section.

Then while in game use CTRL+SHIFT+BKSpace to open the Special K api menu and navigate to "render mod tools" I would recommend looking up a guide if you are new to this process.
You will also need a program that can edit .DDS files like Paint(dot)net or Gimp.

CSIII DDS textures are saved as BC7 (Linear, DX11+) make sure to check the box for generate mip maps.

Final thoughts.
Sorry if this seems a bit long. I would have liked to pull the textures directly, but my tools for decoding the games files are not up to speed yet and I'm not skilled enough to do it myself.

Special K is a good tool nonetheless, I use it in several games as it allows me to take full advantage of my system. CSIII is a well done port on its own and I am able to max the game out on all settings @1080p 60* with my two 980s in SLI. Even in the problem areas I can't say I've seen my frame counter drop and my system is pretty dated at this point.
So even if you don't use any of my textures I highly recommend trying Special K if you haven't. It may just give you that extra push in performance you need, Plus its free.

Anyways, I always have a lot of fun doing these things so please enjoy my little contribution.
I look forward to CSIV releasing though at this time I don't have any texture ideas in mind.

I'm sorry I had to look up what SKIF was.... I can't say I know anything about it, I wrote this guide with SKIM in mind cause that is what I'm using.

Best thing I can think of at this time is launch the game and open the Special K overlay, open the texture tool and dump a texture to disk. Find the SK_Res folder that the texture ends up in.

Should be "\SK_Res\dump" that will be where you place the inject folder in the SK_Res,
"\SK_Res\inject"

Only other thing is find out if there is some step to allowing injection maybe it's off by default.

Thanks for the fast response!

Oh ok, just needing Blue makes it easier to test, but for the path, when I include the \BLUE Altina No Tights\ it loads without issue, but there is no change in the textures. Not sure how to check for errors that don't break the game. Although SpecialK seems to have some options that log various things.

I tried the wrapper option as well with no luck, I got it so that loading through steam shows SpecialK, but still nothing with the textures.

I'm not sure what else I can tell you that might help. I went back through SpecialK walkthroughs, I did see some about white listed games in their forums, in the Injection Config of my SKIF I don't have anything in the Whitelist Patterns, its talking about non-Steam games, I assume it doesn't apply, but maybe not?

Ah, if you have Blue Altina you don't need to download White. Blue Altina comes with the the S-Craft splash art and the menu art. Both packs use 5457D550.dds texture so its conflicting.

I should specify in the guide White is if you just want no tights on white shirt outfit and default with no art, I guess my thoughts at the time were for people who wanted to just use the white shirt for the whole game, thinking back on it now it does seem pointless to have added White version cause you get that with Blue.

Path should be "C:\Users\*******\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III\SK_Res\inject\textures\BLUE Altina No Tights\

All files within the Texture folder are read so they can be categorized it folders.
As far as changing the .ini, It shouldn't matter you only have to do that if you were going to pull textures to edit yourself.

I hope this helps please let me know.

I have SpecialK running through SKIF, with Global Injection on and it works as it should as far as I can tell, it pops up in-game with the ctrl+shift+backspace options.
I changed the .ini file you mention at the top. I'm unsure if this was necessary.
My path is
"C:\Users\*******\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III\SK_Res\inject\textures\8C46B45E.dds" (et al.)
and have the dds files for BLUE Altina No Tights, Emma Without Tights, and White Altina No Tights downloaded.
I have some dlc downloaded but am loading a saved game with nothing cosmetic equipped to Altina.

If I copy in Blue or White Altina's files, On attempting to load a save or area where Altina is rendered I get this error:

failed to load file:
data/D3D11/assetconv_temp/dds_dae/D3D11/chr015_03_conv.
dds.phyre in data/asset/D3D11_us/C_CHR015.pkg (packed),
result=9

Any thoughts on what I missed?

Wanted to see if there was a guide on what the hidden achievements were (no such luck with so few guides) and thought I'd found a nudity guide instead
Still looks good though

Thank you for your kind words. I really wish I wasn't so busy, I need to clear the game on PC and grab all the textures I'm still missing.

Biggest thing I want to work on is making some custom ARCUS covers.
xHardcore CKYx  [Autor] 20. Aug. 2020 um 0:32
I'm going to need a little more information than that. If it's the Special K your having an issue with please check the Guide I linked and make sure you followed all the steps. Also check Youtube, a lot of guides for setting up SKIM.

If it's the textures not loading make sure you have the right directory.

For SKIM the directory should be "C:\Users\****\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III\SK_Res\inject\textures"

For custom wrapper "C:\Users\****\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\SK_Res\inject\textures\ed8_3_PC.exe"
