I enjoy playing Pugna a lot in my pubs right now (early to mid 2020) and learnt from top tier replays. The 7.25 changes made things much better for the Support Pugna build.


Pugna general tips and play style:

-> Understanding that the hero is played differently from the known Core style and builds.
-Your abilibites [Decrepify, (Netherward) and Life Drain] have defensive uses too and you will want to capitalize on them. How to do it is mentioned in the ability descriptions.


Why are we playing the hero as a Support instead of Core?

-> Pugna does not scale well with levels, farm or tempo. It's all nice to have, but you can still do similar things and be very effective without the resources that you get from mid. This works better with the playstyle changes that I've introduced above. All of this is just because of the nature of the abilities. The general idea here is that Support Pugna can still do all the things that Core Pugna does.


Try to play around the fact that some of your base stats are really high!

-> Your base Int + Int gain are just about the highest in all of Dota 2; so you wont need a lot of mana regen at all and wont have to consider your mana pool often. A couple of a clarities here and there should be sufficient.
-This also means that your auto-attacks are strong. Trading with them should be used a lot and your deny-damage is very good too. (Especially with Decrepify)

-> Your movement speed is super high too. You can use this for trading and moving around in the lane, behind enemy tower and for sniping Couriers very effectively. Later, you'll be super valuable to (sometimes) split-push and place deep Observers (use solo Smokes for this too).
