Bombardier Catapult

Description

Bombardier Catapults were armored vehicles used by the Iron Imperium as medium-range artillery. They were designed by the Mechanicum Guild to replace the aging Hurler Catapults. Great care was taken in addressing it’s predecessors shortcomings and flaws, the most drastic being it's effective range. While the Hurler Catapult was a close range siege device and was only able to deliver payloads from 27 Units away, the Bombardier featured an improved Mangonel type catapult able to launch projectiles 177 units away, over 6x further. In addition, unlike the Hurler Catapults that had to return to base to rearm after a single use, Bombardier Catapults were built with a semi-automatic reloading system with 2 extra payloads. Another upgrade was the utilization of a Crystal Core combustion engine for independent movement on the battlefield. While being able to re-position and move around the battlefield without the aid of a transport team was a tremendous advantage, the engine was loud and needed large smokestacks for exhaust, which could give away it’s position. Lastly, the engine was fuel hungry and was inefficient for long trips, so moving teams of oxen were needed to transport them over long distances.

Common tactics for the Bombardier Catapults include stationing them behind troop lines to act as supportive artillery, During lengthy sieges, it is not uncommon for make-shift wooden barricades to be built for the Catapults for extra protection. Due to their very specific role as artillery, they almost never fight on their own and rely on allied forces. One exception to this was during the besieging of The Isle of Ipsilon. After the Iron Army had defeated Queen Wynnfrith’s main army and secured the Old mines for themselves they headed towards Thinside Fort. Blocking their way was an ancient obelisk known as the Standing Stone that could vaporize any who came near with a powerful beam of light. Seeing that any frontal attacks against the Standing Stone would prove futile, the brigadier general of the Iron Army 1st brigade used a Bombardier Catapult to launch a bomb from well out of it’s range. Though the Standing Stone was able to detonate the bomb prematurely, the bomb was close enough that it’s shock wave was able to topple the ancient structure.

@Indomitusnex The first two I made as backdrops for these pictures. That last 2 pictures are of Lyre Peak on Ipsilon.

That is a good idea and I also thought it goes a bit to far. I just have no idea how to do that. I'm still trying to learn how to use the new blocks, currently working with the switch.

Thanks for the idea though, maybe in the 2nd version or something I'll use timers.
