Slashe

Description
HARK, RIVALS! Slashe, Knight of the Rolling Wind, is now available for the Rivals of Aether Workshop! Slashe is a heavy sword fighter variant character with some shared moves from one of my previous characters, Ash. (ABYSS RUNES ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN ABYSS MODE!)

--MECHANICS--
Slashe has 2 mechanics: Highwind and her Helmet.

Highwind is a meter seen above your Health that gives you passive defensive buffs once you fill it half way. The buffs are as follows:
-Fallspeed reduced from 10 to 8
-Walljump height from 11 to 13
-Boosted Uspecial height and horizontal velocity
-Knockback scaling reduced from .95 to .9 (harder to kill)
Highwind also determines the knockback and damage of Nspecial, but drops to 0 upon use. Highwind accumulates by landing close range Hilt sweetspots (hilters), landing any Special Move’s hitbox besides Nspecial, successfully parrying, or taunting while your helmet is on. You lose highwind by taking damage or getting parried.

Slashe’s helmet can be lost by either holding down while taunting, or getting hit while taunting. Without her helmet, Slashe’s knockback scaling increases by .1, meaning that with highwind she’ll have a KB of 1.0 and without she’ll have 1.05 (easier to kill). She will also lose highwind twice as fast upon taking damage. However, she also GAINS highwind twice as fast in this state.

In order to put your helmet back on, you must taunt again, which will replace your “war-yowl” with an animation of Slashe putting said helmet back on. It’s up to you to determine if the lack of helmet and weaker defenses is worth the bigger highwind gain.

--ATTACKS--

Her attacks have close range hilt sweetspots (Hilters) similar to Roy from Super Smash Bros, but has more than enough range to keep foes off of herself. Landing hilt sweetspots (Hilters) accumulates Highwind, but landing sourpots gives you whifflag and extra landing lag. Specials are the only moves that dont have whifflag from landing sourspots and always increase highwind.

Fspecial will throw your sword forward (or diagonally above you if you hold up), and if it hits, you warp to your now stunned opponent and can cancel into a variety of attacks! Whiffing this attack will put you into pratfall. Be careful, the sword can be destroyed when thrown out!

Dspecial grants you super armor while you charge. A fully charged Dspecial is one of Slashe's hardest hitting attacks, and will send your opponent flying upward or spike them if they hit the tip of the sword, but be careful not to do it offstage, as you'll plunge rapidly into the blast zone!

Upsecial can be used on the ground or in the air. Your horizontal mobility with uspecial is increased while highwind is active, making it great for offstage recovery! Using it on the ground will keep you in place, this is a great way to accumulate highwind if you catch your opponent off guard with it!

Nspecial grows in power depending on two factors: How much highwind you have, and if you’ve held it down for the max length. Charging Nspecial will accumulate a bit of highwind, giving it a bit more power than just doing it raw. If you fully charge Nspecial AND have max highwind, you can kill an opponent around the 30~45% range. You’ll know you’ve done a full powered Nspecial if a spiraling wind lance comes out of her sword upon release.

Bair is a unique normal move. Most of her moves are significantly weaker if you hit the opponent with the sword, so if you're going for the kill, just pretend the sword isnt' there and rush straight into your opponent’s face! That said, Slashe's backair is the only move that has both a sweetspot on her hilt and on the tip of her swipe, it wont do a lot of damage, but a tipper from back air can kill at high percents, you just gotta make sure you can time and space it right!

Whether you use highwind defensively, cash it in for Nspecial, play it safe and keep your helmet on, go all out and fight with your helmet off and freely taunt, or completely ignore all those mechanics and just rush in without a care in the world, Slashe can make for either a simple and straightforward fighter or a very specialized powerhouse!

Absolutely love this character, the only thing I'd add is maybe an option to remove the helmet before the match starts, so we don't get beat up right from the get go.

@Lightbulbs99 @Friendly

Yeah Karu kinda went a bit overboard on the ai way back when, don't remember why lol

If i ever patch her again i'll be giving her normal AI, though for the record Slashe is quite possibly one of my least busted characters viability wise, which is ironic considering her high damage output when she DOES land a hit ^^;

you can just get stun locked into death

I've tried to enjoy fighting this character when the AI plays them, but lately I've noticed even when not on turbo the AI does things that leave you stun locked for the whole match unless you get lucky and they do an up special early into the combo, the attacks look pretty solid and the character seems like a lot of fun to fight against but I can no longer stomach the way the AI uses it against you.

I like the character a lot, but i feel like the landing lag on the forward-aerial is a bit much. that's all

@Quackenburt for questions like these I must ask that you specify how the character is making you crash and where. The CSS screen? Upon picking her? upon picking a stage? what stages? do you even get into the match? after using a certain move? after hitting the move? who is the opponent? is your friend sure they have the up-to-date version of the character?

Crashes can also be due to other workshop items, the game itself, or a desynch error in which both people's downloads aren't up to date or properly installed/unmodified. There have been no crash reports prior to this, so unless you can specify it for me my only advice would be for you both to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the character. Sometimes steam fails to auto-update characters.

Sooo she's been crashing the game for me and my friend, any ideas how to fix?
