Magic Path Boosting and Break-In

This is a guide for Dominions 5 to help with maximizing mage-path capabilities for any faction. This does not include any nation-specific spells or items. Inspired by Telos' guide for Dom4

When created, this was complete aside from a very small number of commanders that I was (at the time) unable to confirm that players can even access. It has not been updated recently, however, so if the developers have made tweaks and additions this guide does not include those. That said, it still probably covers the vast majority of any non-national needs for break-in and boosting.

OBJECTIVE: To list every single item, summon, and recruit that can be gotten as ANY nation - no nationally restricted items, spells, or recruits

For items: Sorted by slot, left-to-right in equipment list is top-to-bottom here. Some head-slot items may be differentiated between 'type' of head slot.

For summons: under each path, only list the relevant paths - most of them have access to other paths. Listed maximum possible.

For recruits: under each path, only list recruits that DO NOT rely on a magic site - if you see an indy province with that type of unit, good bet you can recruit that commander type. Some may have all their information, or may only have the paths relevant to the section they're listed in.

Two Universals:

The First Anvil is a Unique (Cons8) Miscellaneous item requiring E6 costing 60 E gems that grants Master Smith 1 (+1 all holder's magic paths for forging)

Forge of the Ancients is a Global Enchantment (Cons 7) requiring E5 costing 80(+) E gems that effectively grants Master Smith 1 to all of a nation's mages as long as the global is up & 20% cost reduction on {most} forging.

These are not included anywhere below as A) they'd be in every category, and B) they only affect crafting items.

NOTE: This may be inaccurate - I went through units showing 'generic only' 'commanders' on the mod inspector, and because of the way the units are set up (multi-form creatures have one that's recruitable and one that isn't - the one that isn't is considered generic; all command summons, etc...) lots of unhelpful units were in the list. I'm very late to respond, but-- the Horticulturalist is already in there :)

Added Cynocephalian Shaman. Couldn't find info on where it's recruited in the inspector, so for now just assuming it's some wastes.

Demon priests, as far as I know [and Mod Inspector says] those are EA Yomi only. While useful to know for someone playing EA Yomi, if I were to include all of the mages for every nation, I think the guide would lose its goal :P

Minor updates, didn't do any major revisions. It's been probably a year since I've played Dom5 so just redid a little bit of formatting. I hate how the guide is forcibly made skinny, and thus the 'notes' section kind of loops back around to where names are when the notes are longish. Can't really eliminate all of that. Also realized when adding the Cynocephalian Shaman that section had hit the character limit, so... Heh. Split the recruits into two sections :)

Anyways, I was looking at some of my completed games for mages you can recruit.

I found that you can get Cynocephalian shamans. I found two of the 100%SDN and 50%AEN ones in an EA game as Sauromatia as a basic poptype, in wastes I believe. Haven't seen the other one from the mod inspector yet though.

Also, Demon priests can be recruited, and have 1holy and 10% chance of FAED. Notably, they are cheaper than ordinary indie priests, at 50 gold, and not 60, so are a fine choice to attempt to get a large amount of instead of basic priests.

And you can recruit Horticulturists from Hoburg provinces(which also have the hoburg priest) in the EA at least, so probably should include them in the recruit tables.
