Plasteel Alloy

Description
Adds a plasteel alloy used for construction. It is a great alternative to outright building out of plasteel. It ends up being much cheaper, while being almost as durable and versatile.

It can be crafted in a Fabrication Bench once Advanced Fabrication is unlocked. You can use it to make any item that accepts metal-like material for creation: furniture, melee weapons, walls, doors and also floors. As a floor it's similar to steel but much faster to build and with smaller bonus to cleanliness. Note: you need smithing researched before you can use it as a floor.

I was missing a mid to high tier, mid to late game material that's not as expensive and overkill as plasteel, but one that's still an upgrade from regular steel. Inspired by x-com's Alien Alloys I created a similar material in Rimworld.

The idea is that you can spend a little bit of plasteel and steel and some time and get a very good material in fairly large quantities. I'm not sure if it's quite balanced (currently you get 20 alloys from 3 plasteel and 10 steel), but making it takes some time and I'd say it fits the stage of the game when you acquire it.

I also tried to make it aesthetically pleasing, so it has a metallic, slightly purple-ish hue. In a lot of lighting conditions it almost looks like high quality steel or something.

@Amunak Thanks very much for updating the mod! And sorry for the (more or less) double-posted comment. I think my internet was acting up that day. Whenever I restart playing RimWorld, I'll fire up my android-only colony, and get the robo-bois to start laying down that awesome floor. Cheers!

Sorry for being quite late, but adding it as a flood is in fact an excellent idea. Updated for 1.3 and added as a floor as well (you can see it in the changed screenshots).

@Amunak It would look great for outside floors in my future android-only game, very high-tech and unusual, and it would complement the sterile tile floors for room interiors very nicely.

@Amunak Could we get the ability to use this for floors, please? The color is just too nice, I've become a little bit fixated on this idea. When you have the time, of course.

Thanks! This mod looks great, and I'm excited to try it out!

@Cataphract Yes! You can use it for the same things you use plasteel for (as long as it's a general recipe and not a specific one). So melee weapons and helmets do work.

Can this be made into weapons?

In another news the latest version should no longer throw errors on load and I added a "stack" texture.

After playing for a bit with the mod I actually decided that it's not too overpowered, at least for my playstyle. The fabrication takes a fairly long time for what constitutes making enough material for 4 walls. The research requirements alone are very very high. The only thing that probably needs tweaking is the price, which is fairly cheap for such a good building material.

However it's still almost twice as expensive as steel and unlike steel it's useful *only* for construction; not even making floors. So I'm not sure if even that is necessary(?) I definitely don't want it to be viable for sale, because it's not supposed to be "farmed" easily, which the material requirements sort of allow.

Salad Snake suggestions are great! I'll definitely get that mod if it was created.
