Mod ID: 1083349027

Essentially makes the speed stat fully customisable for all the rideable flyers. All aspects of the speed stat modification per level tamed are now adjustable through .INI settings (initial tamed speed, modifier per level tamed, global speed stat modifier and the option to set a maximum speed) on all of the Speedy Flyers! Other stats are also modifiable through .INI multipliers, as well as numerous other quality of life options and enhancements to the flyers' functionality. All you need to know about the Speedy Flyers mod you'll find in this guide!

By default, the mod resembles vanilla behaviour and stats as closely as possible, with the exception of the ability to walk backwards as well as the ability to put points into the speed stat, which can be leveled up on all the flyers more or less like before the flyers got nerfed way back when. As such this mod does more or less the same thing as the vanilla option to enable flyer speed leveling or example given the Classic Flyers mod does (albeit it does not make the flyers as overpowered, given the more sensible speed stat modifiers this mod puts in place and the fact this mod leaves the other stats unaltered by default).

However, this mod aims to go above and beyond, by making the speed stat fully customisable including a maximum speed and the ability to set the speed per level gained through GameUserSettings.ini options! Furthermore, it adds the ability to tame and breed for the flyers that do not support taming and breeding in vanilla (i.e. Griffins, all the Wyverns, RockDrakes and Corrupted Flyers) as well as a bunch of Quality of Life improvements which can all be turned on or off and can be customised through the use of GameUserSettings.ini options.

Features
Status values related options
(speed, health, stam and stam recovery, weight and melee)
  • Leveling up speed stat enabled on all the Rideable Flyers. You can set an Initial Tamed Speed, Speed increase per level tamed, Per level and global Speed multiplier. Furthermore, you can set a maximum speed, so that the flyers can never get too fast, ideal for PvP server environments.
  • The other stats (Health, Stamina, Weight and Melee Damage) can be customised through .ini options using multipliers.
  • The Stamina recovery rate can be adjusted for each Rideable Flyer through .ini options.
  • There's now an option which you can enable through .ini to redistribute all of the points that are usually wasted into the speed points into the other (important) stats.
  • You can also change the speed, cooldown time and damageparameters for the Glider through .ini options.
  • The option to allow for level-ups for the Tek Hover Skiff is availabale through .ini. You can buy the levels using Element (amount is also .ini adjustable). After you level up the Skiff you can add points to the health, weight and speed stats. The speed stat is fully .ini adjustable just as for all the other Speedy Flyers and both the maximum flight speed and acceleration scale with the speed stat value
Taming options
  • You can optionally allow any of the Wyverns, RockDrakes and corrupted Flyers to be knockout tamed instead of only being obtainable through stealing eggs (for the Wyverns and RockDrakes) or not at all (for the corrupted flyers) through .ini options. For the Crystal Wyverns it's the waking tame you can disable if you like through .ini.
  • There's a .ini option that makes it so that all the RockDrake and Wyvern Nest Egg spawns will only yield unfertilized eggs, which forces players to tame the Wyverns and RockDrakes which makes them a lot harder to come by.
Breeding options
  • You can optionally allow the Griffins, RockDrakes, Phoenixes, Spacewhales and Corrupted Flyers to breed through .ini options.
  • You have the option to have the Griffins and Managarmrs lay eggs instead of live birthing through .ini options.
  • There's now a .ini option which enable nest egg spawns for the Corrupted RockDrake and the Corrupted Wyvern, the Alpha Wyvern and the Alpha Crystal Wyvern. Since the Corrupted RockDrakes are breedable and there is also an option to have the Alpha Wyvern and Crystal Wyvern spawn in Alpha Wyvern eggs you can now obtain these flyers by stealing the eggs from the nests if you like!
  • Baby cuddle food types were added for the Phoenix (Magmasaur eggs), Griffin (raw Mutton), Spacewhales (Ambergris) and RockDrakes (Nameless venom) since they can normally not have babies, but you can enable it through this mod.
Combat options
  • You can now adjust the interval for the Moth Spore Attack through .ini option.
  • You can now adjust the interval for the Ptero Spin Attack through .ini option.
  • There are .ini options through which you can alter the range and damage of the Phoenix blaze attack.
  • You can adjust the range, damage and stamina cost for the Managarmr Ice Breath attack through .ini options.
  • You can adjust the range, damage and stamina cost for the Managarmr Ice Breath attack through .ini options.
  • You can adjust the bomb crafting speed and bomb release interval for the Spacewhale through .ini options
  • There's a .ini option for having the corrupted flyers attacks damage TEK and metal always, only untamed or not at all.
  • Special items called ‘Charms’ were added to provide armor to the Wyverns, Phoenix and Griffin for whom no saddle is normally available/equipable.
  • The Firebreath attack of the Ember Crystal Wyvern can be customized through .ini options.
  • The Flak cannon on the Tropeognathus saddle can be set to always enabled (so even when not using the Jet Boost) through .ini. Also, the cooldown between the Flak Cannon shots is .ini adjustable.
Movement options
  • You can set the turn radius for the Wyverns through .ini option
  • There's now a .ini option you can set to make the Phoenix automatically brake/slow down when it's following a player/another dino which prevents it from shooting past the position where you intend it to stop.
  • A .ini option has been added to all the flyers to be able to automatically brake/slow down when following a player/another dino which prevents them from shooting past the position where you intend them to stop.
  • A .ini potion has been added to the Pelagornis to enable diving under water, toggles using the [Q]-key.
  • You can set the Maximum numbers of jumps, dashes and strafes before returning to land for the Managarmr through .ini options. Also you can set the jump and dash stamina cost through a .ini option.
  • The 180 degree in flight turns for the Tropeognathus cooldown is adjustable through .ini.
  • You can adjust the Hyperjump distance, Cosmic energy cost and regeneration speed for the Spacewhale through .ini
Special abilities options/miscellaneous
  • The ability to melt scrap metal in their inventories was added to the Phoenixes.
  • The ability to produce Silk over time in their inventories for the Moths (Lymantria) can be enabled through .ini option. You can even set the time it takes between the Silk production
  • You can adjust the Tropeognathus grinder settings (percentage and max amount yielded per grind and max amount to grind in one go)
  • There's now a .ini option which multiplies the percentage of the Owl Base Health that gets added to the base encapsulated healing of the encapsulated characters, essentially offering the ability to tweak the amount of healing you get from the Snow Owls.
  • You can adjust the dino carry weight for the Argy, X-Argy, Ptero, Corrupted Ptero, Griffins, Quetzes and Wyverns through .ini option. For the (X-)Argy you can set this for the Beak and Claws independantly!
  • You can adjust the drag weight for the Managarmr so you can set it to 950.0 and thus prevent Managarmrs to be able to participate in Boss Fights through .ini option; added by request as some Server Admins/Communities find the Managarmrs too OP to participate in the Boss Fights.
  • The visibility of Phoenixes can be controlled through .ini so you can enable or disable the need for superheat condition at will, so the Phoenixes are visible even on maps that don't normally support the superheat conditions after you spawn them in using the provided spawn codes or let them spawn in naturally through the map spawners.
  • You can set an .ini option to make the untamed Spacewhales always visible, even when they're out of their usual visibility regions
Installing the mod
Single Player

Adding the mod to your single player world is as easy as subscribing to the mod from the workshop. The mod does not need a specific placing in the load order. You can optionally set up the GameUserSettings.ini with the [SpeedyFlyers] section containing the options you want for your game. There are a lot of options to choose from, see the .ini options section for more on this. Changes in your GameUserSettings.ini only take effect if you add or edit them BEFORE you start up the game. After you start up the world with the mod installed all your vanilla flyers will automatically be converted to the Imported type SpeedyFlyers. The flyers that spawn in the wild from then on will be of the SF type SpeedyFlyers.

Be aware that the vanilla flyers you have stored in cryopods will only convert to the Imported type SpeedyFlyers AFTER you restart the game or upload/download from Obelisks. Thanks to a collaboration with Lethal from the Dino Storage 2.0 mod the vanilla flyers you keep in the Soul Balls will automatically convert to the SpeedyFlyers upon release, so in that case you won’t have to restart or upload/download from an Obelisk.

Server

If you install the mod on your server you have to of course add the mod to the modlist for your server. The mod does not require a specific load order, unless you add other mods that replace the same dinos in the spawners. Also, you have to set up the GameUserSettings.ini with the [SpeedyFlyers] section containing the options you want for your server community. There are a lot of options to choose from, see the .ini options section for more on this. Changes in your GameUserSettings.ini only take effect if you add or edit them BEFORE you start up the server. As soon as you start up the server with the mod installed the existing tamed as well as untamed flyers will automatically convert to the Imported type Speedy Flyers and the flyers spawned in by the spawners will be of the SF type SpeedyFlyers from then on. It is recommended that all players on your server subscribe to the mod and let all the mods download and fully install prior to joining the server.

Be aware that the vanilla flyers you have stored in cryopods will only convert to the Imported type SpeedyFlyers AFTER you restart the server or upload/download from Obelisks. Thanks to a collaboration with Lethal from the Dino Storage 2.0 mod the vanilla flyers you keep in the Soul Balls will automatically convert to the SpeedyFlyers upon release, so in that case you won’t have to restart or upload/download from an Obelisk.
Crossing over from a different flyer mod
If you want to switch over to Naj's Speedy Flyers while previously using a different flyer mod (e.g. Classic Flyers), there are a few things to be aware of, especially if you have a lot of flyers stored in vanilla Cryopods/Soul Traps from the Dino Storage mod or keep them uploaded in Obelisks or Tek Transmitters!

If you don't use Cryopods/Soul Traps and don't have flyers uploaded to Obelisks/Tek Transmitters or you don't mind losing the flyers you keep stored this way, this section is not relevant to you and you can just go ahead and remove the previous flyer mod from your game/server and install Naj's Speedy Flyers and all should be fine.

There are two options if you do use Cryopods/Soul Traps or have flyers uploaded to Obelisks/Tek Transmitters:
  1. Unpod/release and/or download from Obelisk/Tek Transmitter every dino you want to take with you to the Naj's Speedy Flyers mod. After that it's again just a matter of exiting the game/stopping the server, removing the old flyer mod, restart the game/server to let all the remaining flyers convert to vanilla flyers, exit the game/stop the server again and install the Naj's Speedy Flyers mod. After you restart the game/server now all the remaining flyers will be converted to Imported type Speedy Flyers.

  2. Keep the old flyer mod installed and install the Naj's Speedy Flyers mod as well, making sure it is higher in load order than the old flyer mod. This way all the flyers that are not in Cryopods/Soul Traps or uploaded to Obelisks/Tek Transmitters will be converted to the Imported type Speedy Flyers at startup and the flyers that remain in the Cryopods/Soul Traps or Obelisks/Tek Transmitters can still be released/downloaded. After release/download they will usually convert to the Imported type Naj's Speedy Flyers although they sometimes will only convert after a server restart.

When releasing from the Soul Traps from the Dino Storage 2.0 mod by Lethal there are special checks and conversion logic in place to aid in the conversion process, making the cross over even less of a hassle...
Uninstalling the mod
Uninstalling the mod is, of course, essentially as easy as unsubscribing from the mod/removing the mod from the server mod-list. However, there are a few caveats you should be aware of.

IMPORTANT: At the very least you should be aware that all the SF type Speedy Flyers will be removed from your game/server after removing the mod, whereas the Imported type Speedy Flyers will be converted back to vanilla flyers.

If you do want to keep ALL your flyers after this mods removal the procedure is a little bit more involved. The Dino Storage 2.0 mod by Lethal can be a very helpful tool when removing this mod, because it's more forgiving than the vanilla Cryopods when releasing flyers from the Soul Traps and will give you some guidance as to what to do to prevent losing your flyers or being unable to release them from storage.

The steps to follow when uninstalling this mod to uninstall as cleanly as possible are as follows:

  1. Release all the Speedy Flyers (both SF and Imported types) you want to keep in your game from their Cryopods/Soul Traps and don't forget to download any uploaded flyers you want to keep from the Obelisks/Tek Transmitters.
  2. Exit the game/stop the server and set the ForceConvertSFToImported= option to "True", "true" or "1". Now restart the server to find all the SF type Speedy Flyers converted to the Imported type SpeedyFlyers whilst keeping all of their stat points, mutations, imprint information etc.

If you also set the OffspringSForImported= option to "Imported" (capitalization does not matter here) instead of the default "SF" all the offspring/eggs that are produced from then on will also be of the Imported type; if you keep the server running like this for a few weeks to give all te players a chance to release/download their flyers the flyers that are continued to being bred will already be of the Imported type Speedy Flyers.

  3. After a certain period in which the players on your server had the chance to release all of the flyers they want to keep you can now safely remove the Naj's Speedy Flyers mod from the mod list for your game/server; all the flyers will have been converted to their vanilla counterparts and you can continue playing and breeding with your favourite flyers.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING USE OF THE NAJ'S SPEEDY FLYERS MOD;
WE HOPE TO WELCOME YOU AGAIN AS A USER OF THIS MOD IN THE FUTURE!

How is the speed stat calculated?
The calculation of the speed stat resembles the original (pre-nerf) calculation of the speed stat as closely as possible, keep in mind that a speed stat of 1.0 =100%.

The InitialTamedSpeed is added to 1.0 upon taming and then the SpeedStatMultiplier + 1.0 = multiplied by the existing speed for each tamed level you put into the stat. If the dino has been imprinted then the speed stat will get a boost of maximum 0.2 (scaled by the Imprint Quality).

Examples:
  • InitialTamedSpeed=0.1 means that the flyer will have a speed stat of 110% right after taming
  • SpeedStatMultiplier=0.015 means that 1.5% gets added for each time you level up speed

If you want to put in your own InitialTamedSpeed and/or SpeedStatMultiplier you HAVE TO also set the OverrideDefaultSpeedModifier to True. If you want to set a maximum speed you HAVE TO set the SetMaxSpeed to True. Only then will the MaxSpeed setting be taken into account, where 0.0 means 100% and 1.0 means 200% maximum speed!

Finally, the PerLevelStatsMultiplierFlyerRideable will act as a multiplier for the SpeedStatMultiplier (defaults to 1.0) on all the flyers and the GlobalSpeedMultiplierFlyerRideable (also defaults to 1.0) acts as a multiplier on the current speed for all the flyers.
SF and Imported, what's the difference?
When you press [Alt] + [G] while riding one of the SpeedyFlyers and check the name tag (eg in the inventory screen) you will notice that there are two types of SpeedyFlyers: SF (spawned in by the mod, this prevents overspawning via the map spawners) or Imported (imported vanilla, preexistent to the mod's install).

I had to implement it this way to prevent overspawning issues as much as possible while still giving the option to retain your existing flyers when adding or removing this mod. Only the imported type SpeedyFlyers will remain when you remove the mod... The SF type will be deleted from the world!

Only SF-SF and Imported-Imported couples will yield the mate boost effect and are able to breed amongst them, so SF-Imported breeding is not possible. You can get around this by enabling the .ini option ForceConvertSFToImported (i.e. set it to True) or by breeding two Imported parents which will yield SF Offspring by default as an intermediary step. If you enable the ForceConvertSFToImported option I recommend you also set the OffspringSForImported .ini option to 'Imported' which will force all the offspring to be of the Imported type; be aware that when you release previously stored flyers from cryopods or Soul Balls from the Dino Storage mod after you set these options the options will only take effect after a server restart. You can use the aforementioned conversion options also when you want to remove the mod but want to keep your existing flyers to continue breeding with them.

So, in short:

  • Imported type = pre-existent flyers that were already in the world before the mod was installed and were ported over to the Imported SpeedyFlyers type automatically after the mod was installed. These will also remain behind on the server after the mod's removal but would cause overspawning if I'd use these to replace the vanilla types in the map spawners!
  • SF type = only spawn after the mod is installed and do not cause overspawning in the map spawners. The downside is that you would lose these SF type SpeedyFlyers on mod removal and these are not able to breed with the imported type (you can only breed SF <-> SF or Imported <-> Imported) so you could not continued pre-existing breeding lines, which is where the ForceConvertSFToImported= And OffspringSForImported= . ini settings come in...
.ini options
You can find all of the .ini options for your GameUserSettings.ini on Pastebin here[pastebin.com].

These settings should be added to your GameUserSettings.ini, normally found under:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
or
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\LinuxNoEditor
depending on your platform, underneath the [ServerSettings] section that should already be there.
What does each .ini option do?
You can see what all the .ini options mean and what they do in the table below! ??? in the option-name means you have to enter the name (e.g. Argent, Tape, Quetz, Tropeo, etc.) of the flyer you want to alter the setting for there. n/a in the Default value column means that the default is different for each type of flyer. You can find a complete overview of all the .ini options and their default values in the .ini options section.

Option-name
Default value
Description
???SetMaxSpeed
False
Enables the speed cap set by ???MaxSpeed. If False ???MaxSpeed= will be disregarded.
???MaxSpeed
0.0
Defines the maximum speed a flyer can obtain, where 0.0 = 100% and 0.5 = 150%. Will be disregarded if ???SetMaxSpeed is set to False.
???OverrideDefaultSpeedModifier
False
Enables the override of the default ???InitialTamedSpeed and ???SpeedStatMultiplier values. If False ???InitialTamedSpeed= and ???SpeedStatMultiplier= will be disregarded.
???InitialTamedSpeed
n/a
Value to override the default InitialTamedSpeed value with, which is the speedstat value the flyer starts out with after taming. 0.0 = 100% and 0.5 = 150%. Will be disregarded if ???OverrideDefaultSpeedModifier is set to False.
???SpeedStatMultiplier
n/a
Value to override the default SpeedStatMultiplier value with, which is the percentage the speedstat value changes with each tamed level you put in. 0.01 = 1% and 0.05 = 5%. Will be disregarded if ???OverrideDefaultSpeedModifier is set to False.
GlobalSpeedMultiplierFlyerRideable
1.0
Global multiplier for the speed stat of all the Rideable Flyers covered by this mod. Setting it to 1.1 gives all the SpeedyFlyers a speed boost of 10%.
PerLevelStatsMultiplierFlyerRideable
1.0
Global multiplier for the increase in the speed stat per level of all the Rideable Flyers covered by this mod. Setting it to 1.1 multiplies the ???SpeedStatMultiplier of all the SpeedyFlyers by 1.1 effectively increasing the per level gained speed by 10%.
???RotationRateModifier
n/a
Only available for the Wyverns, adjusts the rotation rate (turn rate) for the Wyverns. Regular (Fire, Lightning, Poison, Alpha and Ice) and Corrupted Wyverns default to 1.2 while the smaller (Alpha) Crystal Wyverns default to 1.6.
ForceConvertSFToImported
False
Forces the conversion of the SF type SpeedyFlyers Spawned in by the map spawners to Imported type SpeedyFlyers upon taming. The main advantages are:
  • You can continue breeding with pre-existing flyers because they will also be of the Imported type.
  • You get to keep the Imported type SpeedyFlyers as their vanilla counterparts after this mod is removed.
See the "SF or Imported, what's the difference?" section for more info on this.
OffspringSForImported
SF
Setting this to 'SF' means you'll get SF type offspring when you breed, Setting this to 'Imported' means you'll get Imported type offspring when you breed. The latter is especially usefull if you also set the ForceConvertSFToImported= option to True.

Fertilized Eggs for all the Flyers were added to the mod; there are the ‘SF’ type Eggs which spawn the SF type Flyers and then there are the ‘Imported’ type Eggs which - you guessed it - spawn the Imported type Flyers. You can set which type of Egg each flyer spawns by setting the OffspringSForImported= .ini option to your preferred type of offspring.

Admin Tools
For your convenience and by request I've added an admin Tek Hover Skiff with inifinite fuel, infinite stats in health and weight and ludicrous speed (think of somewhere in the 'plaid' category) while still maintaining all the nifty features (tractor beam and all) of the vanilla Tek Hover Skiff. The item you get is not craftable and it's easy for the server owner to have the Admin Skiff used by Admins/Moderators only...

Admin Skiff
admincheat giveitem "Blueprint'/Game/Mods/SpeedyFlyers/Admin/PrimalItem_Spawner_HoverSkiff_Admin.PrimalItem_Spawner_HoverSkiff_Admin'" 1 0 0

The Admin Skiff has virtually no limit to it's health and weight, the item amount restrictions for it's inventory (Element, Element dust, Element shards etc) have been removed and the Dino's the Admin Skiff can carry have no limitations. Furthermore, it handles just as well when flying either above or under water while requiring no Element or other fuel in it's inventory to perform it's duties.
Old default settings
For convenience I created a list with the default settings from before the update in which I decided to nerf them to be more compliant with the vanilla option to allow speed leveling turned on (I know it was a controversial decision, but it's a choice I made when starting this mod to resemble the vanilla dinos as closely as possible with the default settings).

Known mod conflicts/issues
  • Awesome Spyglass: If you have the Awesome Spyglass mod installed, you have to unequip the spyglass on your character before pressing Alt + G to see the ‘SF’ or ‘Imported’ added to the dino’s name, otherwise it won’t work.
