Hawk Talon

Description
CPU Tier: 2

Key Feature(s): 2 gatling guns and 2 pulse lasers. Tiny size. Can operate in 2+ gravity upright, going up, or going down.

Concept: The Hawk Talon is a SV version of the Mini Nymph. Tiny size to navigate through the interior of a POI. The original Hawk Talon actually had an identical armament. However, a couple gatling guns is often more than enough. Considered rocket launchers, but my survival test of that variant demonstrated far too many destroyed cargo boxes and detonated fuel tanks. It was too costly to operate with the rocket launchers. The pulse lasers are still small, so lasers it would be. Part of the challenge with tuning the settings is how easy it is to get flipped over. Not too sensitive so one can stay upright but sensitive enough that when you do get flipped over that you can right the SV in a space where you don’t have much room to maneuver to begin with. Tier 2 allows for more choices in weapon loadout.

Story: Why don’t I use the Hawk Talon all the time instead of the Mini Nymph? The Hawk Talon is too hard for me to control. I have used it a couple times. Once was a very beautiful experience, navigating with ease though a POI compared to the Mini Nymph. Most of the time, however, it is a disaster. I bumped the ceiling, now I am sideways or upside down. Don’t understand quite how that happened, but it did. I am shooting aliens around the room. 10 to 15 seconds into the battle, I am sideways or upside down. This time I do know what happened. As I turned the nose of the vessel to aim at each target, slowly the vessel would rotate by a few degrees. Since I am turning frequently and quickly in combat, well, that rotation of the vessels happens quicker. Then I would bump a wall, the ceiling, or the floor as I try to aim at the next alien. Before I know it, my world view is sideways or upside down again. However, I am still in the thick of battle, so I keep going. Not until the fighting is done can I take a moment to right the SV.

Lore: The Hawk Talon is sold by MBI under the FTB brand. You will not find the Hawk Talon in the regular brochure. For such a tiny combat SV, expect to undergo a thorough background check after your special request to purchase one or more Hawk Talon SV. Even if you are using this SV to defend some remote outpost, there is very little about this tiny vessel that has anything to do with defending an asset, save in the way you use it. Some have incorrectly assumed that just because select offerings are not in the public sales brochures that MBI or FTB are involved in sales with criminal organizations. Reporters have been able to access some of the authorization forms for the background checks, and it seems possible that some tips to local law enforcement may have come from the results of these background investigations, the form does include warnings that such may occur when you give authorization for the background check.
