Amaroq Village, Greenland

Description
Amaroq Village, Greenland

The Great Amaroq, was a GOD in Greenlandic Mythology. He is said to have stalked and devoured any person foolish enough to hunt alone at night. Unlike wolves who hunt in packs, the Great Amaroq hunted alone.

In the early 2000’s in Greenland Orcas began to be hunted to be used as food. Amaroq village being a small hunting village was one of the main locations of hunting Orcas, until 2011 when pack of wild Arctic Wolves arrived in the village, and killed the residents. It is believed these wolves were protecting the Orcas.
Due to the climate change from global warming, the ice road connecting Amaroq Village to the main land was destroyed, leaving the Wolves stranded there. Stories began floating around the neighbouring communities that there was something special about these wolves. And that they had witnessed them glowing at night.

People began visiting Amaroq Village at night and sure enough the stories were true. Once the sun went down, the Wolves began to glow. They couldn’t believe their eyes, but new it had to be true, these wolves must be descendants from the Great Amaroq.
The residents got together and secured Amaroq Village, ensuring there would be no dangers entering the village and the Wolves would be protected. They take turns visiting and delivering food and supplies for the pack, and even have a vet visit every few months to ensure none of the wolves have any health concerns.
After a few years, funds were running dry and they were unsure of how they would be able to sustain taking care of these creatures. When they decided to open it up to the public, and create a conservation area. Guests can visit and view the pack from a safe distance. Donation bins are placed around the area as well as educational material to educate the public on this special pack of wolves.

The conservation efforts are going well, and they are bringing in enough money to keep the place going, keep the wolves happy and healthy and start sanctuary on the main land to help all other Arctic Animals in the area.
